Happy New Year Foodies!

I can’t believe we are in 2021 already! I thought I would finish off the year with a Christmas Croissant Doughnut. Well, this one was on sale for 36p rather than £1 so I couldn’t say no, could I? I am a huge donut fan after all and I haven’t had one of these Croissant Doughnuts from any brand. So I treated myself.

I was surprised how big it was when I opened the box and it was rather heavy too. I didn’t expect it to be heavy, but this Croiss’onut was caked in icing. This wasn’t on the description and I thought it was just going to be a but of icing on top from what I could see through the packaging. The icing was pretty thick and it surrounded the Croiss’onut. When I bit into it, all I could taste was the icing to begin with. I did eventually get to the salted caramel, but to be honest with you, I couldn’t taste the salt one bit because there was so much sweetness from the icing. The top did have caramel pieces, but I don’t remember much crunch. Again, I think because the icing was in the way. The Croiss’onut itself wasn’t as flaky as a croissant, but I guess that’s where the donut part came in. Would I have another Croissant Donut? Yes I would, but not from Co-op.

I wish I took a photo before I started laying into it so I could show you what I mean by the amount of icing. I thought I would be able to eat two of these… no chance! I can demolish 6 Krispy Kremes in one sitting, but this one was so heavy and sweet. Maybe I felt full because I had already eaten some other sweet things earlier on in the evening. I just wish there wasn’t so much icing. At least make it a glaze instead, then it wouldn’t be so sweet. The icing was so thick it was like eating a car of chocolate. Just too much. I’m happy to eat another Croissant Doughnut, but I would definitely go for another brand next time. This wasn’t for me and I'm glad I didn't pay full price.
