This is the third and last Notocactus in bloom this year. There are some buds still developing on the ones I already showed.
And this means that 100% of my cacti from this type bloomed this year. Nice score :p
Notocactus Ottonis
A round, and very green cactus Native to South Brazil, Uruguay, North-east Argentina and South Paraguay. I got it with a few little offshots on the sides that I removed when I was repotting it. One died, two are growing. And the flowers that you see here is from one of the babies.
One more bud coming up.
The spines are pretty soft here and wont harm fingers if handled carefully. But they are so damn sharp! I like how the bigger one is facing down.
Flowers are yellow, like all the other ones I have. They are huge with very soft, iridescent petals. Would love to get one of them in pink.
And I did not forget to sniff it! They remind of daffodil fragrance. Not quite, but close. A bit artificial, like some chemical. Not a very strong one and I actually had to stick my nose inside to feel it.
Here is the mother plant. See how small the baby is?
The big ones also have a little bud starting and I hope it doesn't blast. It is very behind this year.
Last year it looked like this:
And yes, this is the one that Suzi did not want to pose with :P
Bonus:
A little guest :)
