Another first time bloomer for me. This year is gonna be legen...
.. wait for it..
..dary!
Sorry, I had to :p
Rebutia neocumingii
This cactus has so many names that I didn't know which one to pick. I got it tagged as Weingartia neocumingii, but I figures I will never remember the first word, so I went for something simpler.
Native to Bolivia and Peru and grows as a solitary plant. How to propagate it? Seeds! Apparently it very rarely grows offsets. I wonder if I can self pollinate it or cross it with some other Rebutia...
The flowers are mostly yellow, mine turned light orange. They stay open for a few days. This one already had two earlier blossoms, but the last few days were cloud and rainy they didn't open properly before fading. No fragrance on this one.
The cactus is not very big, but the spines are damn mean! Very sharp and stiff. Not some flimsy bristles that you can pet. One of those I don't look forward to repotting anytime soon :p
There is more buds coming up, so I will see it blooming for a while. I would love to see most of them open in the same time, but this is ok too :)
And this one is next!
