1976 Lamborghini Urraco P300 Coupé

Bonhams will offering up a lot of great cars during its Bonmant sale in Switzerland on June 20th, including this cool 1976 Lamborghini Urraco P300 Coupé with an estimated price around $US 70,000. With this coachwork penned by the one and only Marcello Gandini, this Lamborghini reflects perfectly the 70's.

I'll of course come back to the final price of the Aston Martin Vantage Heritage Racing currently on sale in Hong Kong until June 5th (2 June 2021 : Next Bid $HK 950,000).

History of Lamborghini Urraco

The Lamborghini Urraco was presented during the Turin Auto in 1970. As all the Lamborghini, the car was named after fighting bulls, Urraco can be translate to young bull. This small Lamborghini was created in order to compete against the Porsche 911, the Ferrari Dino 308 or the Maseratti Merak.

The coachwork was penned by Marcello Gandini, the famous Italian designer working for Bertone and known for the design of Lamborghini Miura, Lamborghini Countach, Fiat X1/9, Lancia Stratos, Citroën BX... among others.

The first version in 1972 was named P200 for its 2 litre engine, then P250 for 2.5 litre and in 1974 P300, the most powerful version with 3.0 litre V8 engine. Just for info, the P111 was the US version to comply with US homologation (21 examples). But despite its performance and improvements, the latest Urraco was a commercial failure with only 190 examples produced (520 P250 were built). And most importantly against the competition of Ferrari and Porsche, it didn't have the expected success. The production ceased in 1978.

What would have been your choice between the Ferrari Dino 308, the Porsche 911 and this Lamborghini?

This example is finished in red over a brown leather interior. As you can see, the dashboard is rather rough, close to a racing car. But it must be fun to be behind this little Lamborghini 😀
