Coffee Shops Review : Types of Coffee Shops

coffeeshop.png

Earlier this year, I have explored many coffee shops and cafe in town. From this series, I have learned to classify types of coffee establishment. First, a creative space, second a workspace, Third a mixture of the first and the second, and fourth, a regular coffee shop, at last, a fast-food(chains) coffee shop. In a nutshell, here are my definition of it.

  • A creative space coffee shop is where its owner regularly host film discussion, public discussion, workshops and art fair.

  • A work space coffee shop is where people could work there conveniently supported with quiet ambience, comfortable seating, and also plenty of sockets.

  • A mixture of both is combining a creative space and also workspace where people could pick a designated room to work.

  • A regular coffee shop is a place where you could simply enjoy regular menu coffee and hangout with your friends, family, or by yourself. They don't host any workshops nor is adequate to be called a work space coffee shop.

  • Fast-food(chains) coffee shop is a coffee shop that offers take-away and is having a franchise business model. This coffee shop rarely has chair to sit. It's mostly just a small shop. You can not also expect single origin from these places.

In these collections I will be showing you the examples based on my definition above. However, I have yet to write about the creative space hub because I only visited the place yesterday.

The first coffee shops I visited in town. I find this place a unique one. The place is comfortable as a working spot. It has everything that a working place needs, fast wifi, plenty sockets, great lighting and ambience. So, based on my classification this can be classified into "working place" coffee shop.

The ambience is supportive if you want to work or study inside this coffee shop. It also features plenty of sockets and a fast wifi.

I went to that place with an aunt. The place is family-friendly and it serves plenty heavy-meals. Working in this place is not sustainable. This is only a great place to get coffee and talk. So based on my classification, this will go into the regular coffee shop. If you want to know more about the place, the atmosphere, and for an inspiration for you next coffee shop business, check this one out.

We choose the private closed spot as the table is enough for the five of us. This secluded spot is equipped with air-conditioning and natural light from the outdoor area. However, it also has soft lighting that the staff will turn on during the afternoon. Marketed as a family-friendly hangout, do not expect this place to have plenty of sockets. This place is not working friendly, especially for nomads. This place is quite packed too, so it's not working-space friendly.

This is the place that I love visiting then. However since it gains popularity, this place is often overcrowded. Hence it is not a fun place to work anymore. But it is still sustainable to work from.

This place has everything a remote worker needs, fast-reliable wifi, adequate seating, lighting, and obviously, a great coffee selection.

This one was a mixture of a bistro with a coffee shop. It has live music. But the coffee, based on my classification will be in the regular coffee shop.

When I first entered the place, it felt like entering a bar instead of a coffee shop. I lowered my expectations to think the area won't be up to my standard. For the note, my standard is always a remote-friendly place with decent noise, not too small, comfortable seating, and a good selection of coffee. I don't ask for much. Unfortunately, some cafes that are advertised as remote-work friendly isn't like that after all.

This one is a unique regular coffee shop. It doesn't have plenty sockets and fast wifi but it has cool atmosphere and instagrammable if you want to hangout with your friends/family.

Vintage, Classic, and old schooled. These three words perfectly describe this Classic co atmosphere. This cafe is located 25 minutes from the city center so getting to this place is not an issue. As you can see from the picture above, they have an indoor spot which I think can be quite romantic at night. I think this cafe is less packed than other cafe that I have been to. As you get inside the cafe, the interior will steal your attention. It was hard for me not to directly take pictures inside the cafe. But again, I have to order first. I spotted caramel macchiato on the menu and I ordered it. Price wise, this cafe is not expensive. Other places that I have reviewed has more expensive prices than this one. But now, let me take you to this cafe tour !

This one is also a regular coffee shop. I perhaps need to find a classification for a coffee shop with a roastery because apparently, there are some in town that offers such service.

This cafe is located on the city outskirt inside a gated residential place. Unlike many cafes in this city and the ones I have reviewed, this is the only place that provides books for visitors to read. Sadly, some of the books were dilapidated.

@macchiata/coffee-chains-janji-jiwa-review

This one above is definitely a chain coffee shop. It is available in many provinces in Indonesia.

The coffee chain has fast food characteristic such as emphasizing on speed. The coffee is also often pre-made, unlike cafe and coffee shop where they manually make their coffee

That one is also a regular coffee shop. It is a great place to hangout with friends and family. Just like the name suggests. It's not a supportive place to do some work as well because the amenities.

@macchiata/dasarasa-cafe-review

This coffee shop is a regular coffee shop which offers unique architecture. People come here to talk and hangout with their friends.

Nobody would have guessed there is a unique architecture in between two clothing stores. This place is a hidden gem that is recently opened in the city.

I hope after reading this, you can learn different types of coffee shops, its atmosphere, and the market target of your coffee shop. To check individually about the places, you can simply click the post.
