A funny monument to Chekhov in Tomsk

Good morning, dear friends!

Want to see another place in Russia today?

I wrote a little article about a funny sculpture.
It’s in Tomsk. Tomsk is a city in Siberia.

In Russia, lovers of Russian classical literature read from the school bench the works of the great Russian writer Anton Pavlovich Chekhov.

And not surprisingly, in Russia there are many monuments, sculptures, busts of the writer.

But one of these monuments to Chekhov, frankly, surprised me. Let me explain why.

This monument to A.P. Chekhov is located in the Siberian city of Tomsk, on Promenade Street near the Tomj River.

I’ll also show you this beautiful river Tom!

Why is a monument extraordinary?

I was a little surprised by the image of the great Russian writer.

The monument looks like some kind of comic character.

Usually monuments to famous people look more strict.

And here Chekov reminds me of a circus clown.

The writer is wearing a funny coat, huge shoes. And Chekhov is holding a huge umbrella.

Chekhovsky glasses, however, are preserved - that gives recognition of Chekhov in this monument.

But what is most amazing is the nose of a sculpture writer.
Look at that - Chekhov’s nose shines like a polished copper coin!

Guess what it was?

Such is the tradition of the city of Tomsk - passing by the monument of Chekhov, rubbing his nose.

I guess people hope that when they rub Chekov’s nose in, there will be more happiness and luck in life!

Do you like this monument to the great Russian writer A. P. Chekov?
