Hola soy Lorena Manzanilla nacida en los Andes Venezolanos, entre montañas, ríos y las personas más dulces y amables de todo el país. Hoy vengo a contarles un poco sobre nuestra cultura y costumbres, acompáñenme. 🤗

Soy originaria de Jajó un pequeño pueblo del estado Trujillo, este estado se encuentra en el interior del país y le llaman la ciudad portátil ya que durante sus primeros tiempos tuvo que ser mudada de sitio hasta 7 veces debido a la alta sismicidad, la hostilidad de las tribus locales y otros problemas de las primeras ubicaciones.

I am originally from Jajó a small town in the state of Trujillo, this state is located in the interior of the country and is called the portable city because during its early days it had to be moved up to 7 times due to high seismicity, hostility of local tribes and other problems of the first locations.

Jajó es un pueblo donde predomina la siembra y el cultivo, tiene una temperatura que oscila entre 15 a 17 grados y esta lleno de gente servicial. Ahí nacieron mis abuelos y aunque ellos fallecieron quedó la casa materna donde todas las vacaciones siempre nos reunimos a compartir en familia. Tengo una hermana y 9 primos, así que nunca nos aburrimos.

Jajó is a town where farming and cultivation predominate, has a temperature that ranges between 15 to 17 degrees and is full of helpful people. My grandparents were born there and although they passed away, my mother's house remained where we always gather every vacation to share with the family. I have a sister and 9 cousins, so we never get bored.

Una de mis cosas favoritas de ser venezolana es disfrutar de una gastronomía rica y diversa, el curruchete es un dulce típico de la zona andina de Venezuela, lo preparan en pueblos y caseríos situados en el sur del Estado Trujillo y el norte del estado Mérida, se prepara a base de panela o papelon, queso, canela, clavos y galletas o pan. Se acostumbra a comer en víspera de la primera nevada del año, que según la tradición coincide con el día de San juan los 24 de Junio.

El curruchete es rico en calorías y su dulzura disminuye el frío. Es un dulce típico de los paramos. En Jajó también se acostumbra los 24 de Junio decirle a los niños ''a bañarse temprano con agua bendita por ser día de San Juan Bautista'' y luego a comer curruchete. San Juan Bautista, fue un predicador ambulante judío que bautizó a Jesús y su día de fiesta es una tradición muy alegre ya que todo el pueblo se reúne en la plaza con música y bailes folclóricos típicos, e incluso realizan dramatizaciones del bautismo de Jesús, en varias ocasiones tuve la oportunidad de participar en los bailes típicos y fue una bonita experiencia.

One of my favorite things about being Venezuelan is enjoying a rich and diverse gastronomy, the curruchete is a typical sweet of the Andean zone of Venezuela, it is prepared in towns and villages located in the south of Trujillo State and the north of Merida State, it is prepared with panela or papelon, cheese, cinnamon, cloves and cookies or bread. It is usually eaten on the eve of the first snowfall of the year, which according to tradition coincides with the day of San Juan on June 24.

The curruchete is rich in calories and its sweetness diminishes the cold. It is a typical sweet of the Paramos. In Jajó it is also customary on June 24 to tell the children ''to bathe early with holy water because it is the day of San Juan Bautista'' and then to eat curruchete. San Juan Bautista, was a Jewish itinerant preacher who baptized Jesus and his feast day is a very joyful tradition since the whole town gathers in the square with music and typical folkloric dances, and they even perform dramatizations of the baptism of Jesus, on several occasions I had the opportunity to participate in the typical dances and it was a nice experience.

Otra costumbre que llevamos a cabo es desayunar los domingos pastelitos con malta, los pastelitos son hechos con harina de trigo y hay de distintos sabores aunque los más comunes son los de papa con queso y carne, mientras que la malta es una bebida venezolana que se prepara a partir de la cebada como la cerveza, también puede llevar maíz y color caramelo.

Another custom we carry out is to have pastelitos con malta for breakfast on Sundays, the pastelitos are made with wheat flour and there are different flavors although the most common are potato with cheese and meat, while malta is a Venezuelan drink that is prepared from barley like beer, it can also have corn and caramel color.
