On expanding the freedom of speech: What we are getting when organizing the society in broadly ways!

Professor Francis Sejersted claimed that the freedom of speech should be large, and that we should expand our world view as good as we can. There are obstacles in the minds of people, and we should ask which obstacles that are in human mind, and which types of obstacles that are acceptable or not acceptable, and what these things imply.

We can mean what we are meaning, and we are responsible for our own lives. Our meanings and perceptions are good and right or they are wrong, cowardly and irrational. And therefore there can be conflicts in the societies, when the mind set is not open and free.

In the United States, the First Amendment protects freedom of speech. The First Amendment was adopted on December 15, 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights—the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution. In general, the First Amendment guarantees the right to express ideas and information. And what we are meaning is coming from something, and therefore we should ask ourselves why we are meaning what we are meaning.

A succession of English thinkers was at the forefront of early discussion on a right to freedom of expression, among them John Milton (1608–74) and John Locke (1632–1704). Locke established the individual as the unit of value and the bearer of rights to life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness. And the freedom is the most important we have today, and we are free to think, feel and act in accordance on how we are, and what we have of thoughts in human mind have implications on how we are and why we are as we are.

The topic of free speech is one of the most contentious issues in liberal societies. If liberty of expression is not highly valued, as has often been the case, there is no problem; freedom of expression is simply curtailed in favor of other values. It becomes a volatile issue when it is highly valued because only then do the limitations placed upon it become controversial. If we place obstacles and limitations in our human minds, these will imply the situations where we are, and we know that freedom is free and open in the infinity of the human kinds in humanity in all countries in the world.

The freedom of speech is a problematic issue many places in the world, and this is both in the working life and outside the working life. And different religions imply that not all things are open for anyone, and that we cannot discuss things in free ways, but this discussion is good, and more open human minds can imply new insights, and we can know better what we are standing for, so the views, the opinions and standpoints, are all open for philosophy and one should be rational or irrational in the ways we are. And the viewpoints are all kinds from the left to the right, or from the right to the left. And the views we can have as humans are all kinds from being conservative, being engaged with liberalization or having extremism or being too extreme on the views. And the more variations we have in the political life, the more solutions we have on different issues, and sometimes we agree on what to do, and sometimes we are in opposition. And discussions among parties are something we have to make our own opinions and viewpoints about what to do and why.

The freedom of speech is a difficult subject, and some hate each other, and some love each other. And sometimes we can not stand each other. But we must love each other and respect each other in the different countries, but we should give our messages to the power positions, in such cases that things and people are treated in good ways, and that we are using our knowledges and talents as we just want and can, and what we just have to imagine what we want as people, and that we can make our imaginations as we just desire.
