STREET ART #95 – Steet art in Aalborg, Denmark

1.JPG

Finally I have had the oportunity to visit Aalborg and my family. I also got the opportunity to have a look at the latest addition to the street art scene. Several of the new murals painted this year are just a few minutes' walk from where my mother lives. But I also got to take pictures of two "old" pieces that I have passed many times, but without taking pictures of them.

This is not a new piece. I have seen it before, but for some reason I never took a photo. The artist is NADA / Frida Still Vium, who has contributed to the art scene in Aalborg since 2014. This is not the only one. She has painted many colorful, fairytale-like animals and portraits all over the city. But unfortunatly some of them have been repainted.

The artist behind this beautiful piece is Chilean INTI. It was finished in August 2020. Most works are often characterized by warm, bright colors.

This must be one of the largest murals in Denmark. It is visible from many places along the fjord named «Limfjorden» that divides the city in two. The motif is a section of the railway bridge that crosses the fjord a little further to the left. The artist's name is Søren Elgaard, who in collaboration with students from Techcollege created this work in 2016.

The day before I left, my sister noticed this huge mural on a wall in the inner city. You don't see it from the street, as it's in a back yard. She send me a text messege to let me know, in case I hadn't seen it. A beautiful portrait of a woman with what a dove. I don't know who the artist is.

A large colorful dragon who seems to have been painted as a collaboration of several artists. But unfortunately the cars were parked in front for the whole week-end.

In Søndergade, which is also the street where my mother lives, the Norwegian artist Martin Whatson has painted " Rock Climber" on the end wall of a house. She said she could stand in her window and watch how the work was eventually completed this amazing piece on this 18 meter high wall. It was done as part of «Out in the Open» (a street art project inviting artists from all over the world)

Whatson is a Norwegian artist who has been active since the 1990s. This year he has created two murals in Aalborg. His works often shows portraits, animals and dancers in an abstract, colorful way, mixing techniques. The people are painted in greyish tone on layers of colors.

Only a few meters down the same street, on the corner he did this delicate ballarina on one of the old houses. The title is «Passé» which I believe is one of the main positions of ballet. Here it is simplicity that underlines the ballerina. But her skirt is multicolored reminding us about the previous painting. It suits the multicolored houses well.
