Too Far Gone

"Too Far Gone" or "TFG" is an expression that was originally used to indicate that someone is in a very bad, weak, or confused condition because of being sick, tired, drunk or something like that.

In the modern age of 280 character messages and internet trolls the expression has gained the additional meaning of someone who has gone too far down the rabbit-hole of some nonsensical conspiracy theory, to the point that there's no chance whatsoever that they'll ever come back into the light of logic and reason. Unfortunately this applies to a growing number of people. Or maybe not; maybe it's just that the proponents of wacky ideas are often also the loudest; anti-vaxxers are among those people who proudly and loudly display their irrational fears and ignorance. Then again, if I look at the polling that says that 53 percent of Republicans still believe that Trump has won the 2020 elections, I'm not so sure that it's only the loudness of their voices; such news makes me think the number of TFG's really is growing. Add to that the fact that there's huge overlap between those Trumpists, anti vaxxers and Qanon believers, and we must conclude that we're seeing the rise of a kind of magical thinking that doesn't bode well for the future...

Recently there was a protest against vaccination mandates in New York where scared and angry Americans let the world know that they are not sheep, that they will not follow the herd that blindly follows government mandates, that they refuse to cooperate with the fascist Nazi practice of registering vaccinated and unvaccinated people which they fear will lead to discrimination of the latter group. And what's crazy is that I can't blame them for being suspicious of the government or vaccines. Their whole life they've been lied to by the government and Fauci did lie to them about the efficacy of wearing masks. The Boy Who Cried Wolf has lost any semblance of credulity now that the wolf has truly arrived at the village...

But it's all so senseless. I know this will convince none of the TFG's, but vaccines and vaccine mandates have existed all our lifes, and have saved many of our lifes. Everyone must prove that they're vaccinated before they can enlist in school. And if you refuse simply because the government wants you to do something, why do you wear a seat-belt, why do you follow traffic rules? Some mandates are simply there because without them society wouldn't function. Some mandates are really there for the good of all. And if you're worried that a vaccine or a "vaccine passport" will enable the government to track you, why do you still own a cell-phone? Or a car for that matter; they're also equipped with GPS location hard- and software nowadays...

A CNN reporter interviewed Trump loyalists at his rally in Alabama. I've tortured myself and watched almost an hour and a half of Trump's address to his crowd, and it made me so sad. Trump was cheered on when he spoke of weak woke people. He was cheered when he implied the elections were stolen by those weak woke people. They cheered him when he accused the American female soccer team of being too woke. The only time he wasn't cheered, when he was booed even by some, was when he said he took the vaccine. And when the CNN reporter confronted an anti vaxxer Trumpist afterwards with the fact that Trump took the vaccine, guess what she said. She said that she doubted that Trump really took the vaccine! If that's not a clear case of TFG, I don't know what is. She simply won't believe anything that doesn't fit in the rabbi-thole she dug for herself. It's so sad. She seemed like a really nice old lady whose grandchildren, if she has any, will most certainly love very much. On the other hand I regularly see articles about families that are broken because of these highly politicized topics...
