"Kitty OFF, Kitty ON" for #caturday

Have you ever seen a kitty that goes OFF and ON? ๐Ÿ˜

I've mentioned my love of "alternative lighting" and even showcased three of my pieces in past posts. Then, I became busy posting about barns, flowers, silver, minerals & stones from my collection while my other alternative lighting gathered dust, both literally and figuratively. But for a splendid #caturday, this piece was screaming to be featured. ๐Ÿ™€

I forget exactly when this deฮ‡lightฮ‡ful kitty found its home with me, but it was definitely sometime between 2000 and 2004. I had picked up a few things at one of the Walmart stores in the Orlando, Florida, metro area. On my way back through the store to the cash register, I just happened to cut down the aisle where the lamps & light bulbs are stocked and saw this fabulous lamp! It wasn't terribly expensive, either, perhaps only USD $8 or thereabouts, so I had to get it!

The base of the lamp is a metal rod that has been curled into a spiral shape and functions a bit like a springย โ€” i.e., the kitty-head will wobble back-and-forth if tapped. ๐Ÿ˜‚ The light inside the lamp is a standard 4-watt "night light" style bulb, so it doesn't require much electricity to operate.

Oh, and the lamp does not flash on-and-off. The GIF at the top of this post was made by me from two photographs, one with the lamp ON and one with the lamp OFF.

Even when the lamp isn't burning, it's a cute accent piece in the right places. I usually keep it in my bedroom, but it occasionally makes its appearance in the den as well.

I think alternative methods of lighting are pretty and I like the uniqueness of them. They provide a softer glow than standard lamps and a more restful atmosphere as well. Do you have any alternative lighting in your home?
