The plenty of time "mindset"

Anyone at the time of retirement are filled with plans for the future, excited and expectant with what is to come. There will be plenty of time to do what we want when we want for as long as we want..... so we think.

But as it so often happens with any life event whether it is a holiday, finding a new home or work promotion, what is planned and how it actually works out can be very different. How we all go about living our lives vary from individual to individual. Some of us enjoy planning for the future happy waiting to travel and other fun adventures until children grow up and the working years are done.

But, what if the future plan does not work out the way we planned, there is not really plenty of time after all? Getting sick with a debilitating disease. losing a partner, the world is closed by a pandemic to name a few. Making the best of such a situation is really the only sensible option, that is if we can. How we personally deal with let downs and disappointments is very individual.

This was so clearly pointed out by a few retirees I happened to meet along my road. "Don't wait too long as there may not be plenty of time," they said. One lady talked about the unexpected illness of her husband who unfortunately passed away before they could much of what they had planned. Although sad, it has not stopped her from living a full life, she just does it on her own.

The moral of the story is not to put off today for tomorrow.

We just do not know what is around the corner, so when the opportunity knocks go for that long distance walk, go live in your dream place, run the little hobby business, or buy that little pet you have always wanted.

Just walk your path.
