as I announced last week, here is the second part of the pictures from the south of Australia. Today we will go away from the city and along the coast of the Port Phillips Bay, with little breaks at several beaches until we arrive the Fort Nepean. There, the Bay will meet the ocean.
The beach of St. Kilda is directly in front of the city and is a famous destination. On a sunny day, there is a great view from the St. Kilda pier to the skyline of Melbourne.
If you are lucky, you can also find some penguins there during the day. Normally, they arrive here during sunset to sleep between the stones. Contrary, the seagulls are everywhere around the beaches.
On our way to the Fort Nepean we stopped also on several beaches, but unfortunately, I can’t remember the names. All of them show an amazing view.
Along the beaches you can also find those little colourful beachhouses everywhere. There, the locals store their surf equipment or little boats. During the summer some of them also sleep there.
Finally, we arrived at the Fort Nepean in the very south of Melbourne. This Fort was built to prevent the city against attacks from the sea. Also a few hundred years ago, the settlers from England established one of their panel colonies there. On the way to the land tongue, you can see on the one side the calm bay and on the other side the stormy ocean.
On our way back home, we met one of the very shy echidnas.

wie letzte Woche angekündigt möchte ich euch heute ein paar weitere Bilder aus dem Süden Australiens zeigen. Wir werden uns nun auf einen Weg aus der Stadt entlang des Ufers der Port Phillips Bay machen, mit Zwischenstopps an verschiedenen Stränden, bis hin zum Fort Nepean, wo sich die Bay ins offene Meer öffnet.
Der Strand von St. Kilda liegt direkt vor den Toren der Stadt und ist ein beliebtes Ausflugsziel. Bei gutem Wetter hat man vom Pier des Segelboothafens einen schönen Blick auf die Skyline von Melbourne.
Mit etwas Glück kann man auch tagsüber einen Pinguin finden, die normalerweise erst in den Abendstunden dort zu ihrem Schlafplatz zurückkommen. Wohingegen die Seemöwen immer und überall anzutreffen sind.
Auf dem weiteren Weg zum Fort Nepean haben wir noch an weiteren Stränden angehalten, deren Namen ich leider nicht mehr weiß, aber die Aussicht war traumhaft.
Auch findet man entlang der Strände überall diese bunten Strandhäuser in denen die Einheimischen ihre Surfer-Ausrüstung oder kleinere Boote lagern und im Sommer auch die Nächte am Strand verbringen.
Begibt man sich nun weiter Richtung Süden kommt man irgendwann am Fort Nepean an, einem alten Fort, das zur Seeabwehr erbaut wurde. Hier landeten vor mehreren hundert Jahren die Engländer und gründeten dort eine ihrer Strafkolonien. Auf dem Weg zur Spitze der Landzunge kann man auf der einen Seite die ruhige Bay sehen und auf der anderen Seite die stürmige See.
Auf dem Rückweg lief uns auch noch ein wilder Ameisenigel über den Weg.
