Our funds have been very very bad in the past year due to Covid and the subsequent absence of tourism, which is where a majority of our funding and volunteer work originates. It isn't easy to run an animal-welfare center without funds and several of us have dipped into our own salaries from other jobs in order to get things done on various occasions. We have had a few successful fundraisers in the U.K. and a couple at sympathetic local restaurants and bars that were keen to help us out but most of these businesses are struggling in their own way due to Covid as well.
It gets harder and harder to find the funding to continue our battle to ease the suffering of the stray dog and cat population in Krabi but every now and then a hero comes along.
We are just so extremely grateful that Phokeethra Golf Club decided to have a charity fundraiser for us this year and to be included as the recipient of the proceeds in their 1st annual event is a tremendous honor. It couldn't come at a more desperate time and we are just so incredibly happy and thankful that these kind souls decided to include us in their event.
It is expected that the event will have a low turnout since as one would expect, a hotel chain like Sofitel is also struggling against the rigors of the lockdown on international tourism but they are still doing their part to help out others and in this case, to help out dogs and cats of Krabi.
If you happen to be in the area and are a golfer anyway, 999Baht is a very small price to pay for this event since it includes golf, a BBQ, and plenty of games for non golfers as well. If you are not in the are, which is probably most people, please consider using Sofitel for your holiday bookings in the future. This was a truly unexpected surprise and we are just delighted to be a part of it.
