Better Late Than Never

In the last week we have seen terrorism escalate in Mozambique and in the last day or so action is finally happening. This has been brewing for some time and is and was not unexpected. I have friends who have been over in Mozambique for what must be the last 6 months fighting a terrorist war protecting civilians and strategic business interests like oil and gas.

This should be quick and easy as if reports are correct they will be pinned in one area with the sea at their backs.

What I find oddly strange is the Mozambican Government was reluctant to let foreign boots on the ground but in this instance I don't think they have the right to make that decision. A Government is there to serve and protect it's people who voted them in and if they fail to do that then they are not fit to govern. Letting there people be massacred is not something you can ignore and with Mozambique being a neighboring country of where I live this needs to be fixed immediately with or without the help of the Mozambican Government.

The Mozambican Government has to take responsibility for this escalating to this point in the first place. When the gas and oil fields were first discovered revealing 100's of Billions of dollars in value then at least create employment for the locals. Mozambique is a very poor country and by employing 10 000 or 20 000 people in this area to help build infrastructure or something then they wouldn't have joined the rebel group. Isis or Boko Haram or whatever group they really are really nothing more than a rabble. The only reason these things have lasted so long in Africa is underlying problems like corruption. Nigeria is a prime example and to be talking about the same conflict years after it first started is a sad joke. The softly softly political correct way does not work and fire must be met with no mercy and elimination.

Over the last day or so various countries have deployed troops into the region namely Portugal sending their Special Forces and the South African Army. The American's Green berets are already there in a training role which I don't really believe. Fix the situation first and then train has to be the agenda as the Mozambican Army is not exactly any good. The French who have the Total company as the main sponsor involved in this area will most likely be around somewhere in a non advertised sort of way.

Reports came out that the rebel forces (terrorists) had received better arms recently and the questions were asked from whom. The alarming discovery was from the Mozambican army themselves as every time they came under fire they left everything behind fleeing the attack. The people are better off right now without their own army supporting them.

Thought I would add something light hearted as I hope they are not all like this, but at least the Army will get there quickly.

I cannot believe some of the responses on twitter after the details were announced of South Africa sending troops. People are worried about retaliation and yes they should be as we have had an open border policy for over 20 years. How many terrorists have we been harboring here over the years as the Kenya shopping center bombing was linked to muslim extremists who had been staying here in South Africa. Sitting watching people being butchered is just cowardly so yes this is the only decision that could have been made.
