Art has the ability to bring us closer to other cultures and makes it easier for us to see the world from another perspective, making new ideas arise in us, thus learning more about our humanity.
Ashgar Farhadi knows this concept very well, being responsible for masterpieces such as A Separation, winner of an Oscar and film that shows us such an everyday reality in which we can easily see ourselves reflected. In Salesman it is no exception and I consider that it achieves its mission in a more forceful way than in the acclaimed A separation.
El arte tiene la habilidad de acercarnos a otras culturas y nos facilita ver al mundo bajo otra perspectiva haciendo que nuevas ideas surjan en nosotros, aprendiendo de esta manera más de nuestra humanidad.
Ashgar Farhadi conoce este concepto muy bien, siendo el responsable de obras maestras como lo fue A separation, ganadora de un oscar y película que nos muestra una realidad tan cotidiana en la cual nos podemos ver fácilmente reflejados. En Salesman no es una excepción y considero que logra su cometido de una manera más contundente que en la aclamada A separation.
Salesman or The Client in Spanish, is a film that shows us a reality where there is a moral dilemma that traps us. In this dichotomy between right and wrong comes a stormy reality about forgiveness or revenge that director Farhadi knew how to handle perfectly.
Salesman o El cliente en español, es una película que nos muestra una realidad en donde hay una disyuntiva moral que nos atrapa. En esta dicotomía entre lo que está bien o mal surge una tormentosa realidad sobre el perdón o la venganza que el director Farhadi supo cómo manejar a la perfección.
The films by this director do not show us any spectacular data but rather situations that are available to everyone but in a tenacious way in which a philosophical dilemma lies in the viewer but first I must make a brief synopsis so that they get an idea about the quid of the question.
Las películas de este director no nos muestran ningún dato espectacular sino situaciones que están al alcance de todos pero de una manera tenaz en la cual subyace un dilema filosófico en el espectador pero primero debo hacer una breve sinopsis para que se hagan una idea sobre el quid de la cuestión.
The situation revolves around a couple who, due to heavy damage to the building in which they lived, decide to choose to find a new apartment to live in. This search was facilitated by a friend of Emad, Rana's husband, who gave him payment facilities but from the first day the couple noticed something strange and this is a room full of the belongings of a former tenant.
A few days later, Rana receives an unexpected visitor. They knock on the door of the apartment and Rana, thinking that it is her husband, leaves the door ajar. Minutes later the neighbors hear screams in the apartment, finding Rana badly beaten and in a deplorable situation.
Emad, as may be logical for many, is thirsty for revenge but his wife Rana prohibits him from going to the police for fear that people really know what happened. However, it should be noted that the film does not make it clear if Rana was the victim of sexual abuse but if she was beaten. Now, what would you do if you were under Emad's skin? Would you put everything aside as if nothing happened?
La situación gira en una pareja que debido a fuertes daños en el edificio en el que vivían, deciden optar por la búsqueda de un nuevo apartamento en donde vivir. Esta búsqueda fue facilitada por un amigo de Emad, el esposo de Rana, el cual le dio facilidades de pago pero desde el primer día la pareja nota algo extraño y esto es un cuarto lleno de las pertenencias de una antigua inquilina.
Pocos días después Rana recibe una visita inesperada. Tocan la puerta del apartamento y Rana pensando que es su esposo deja la puerta entreabierta. Minutos después los vecinos escuchan gritos en el apartamento, encontrando a Rana fuertemente golpeada y en una situación deplorable.
Emad, como puede ser lógico para muchos esta sediento de venganza pero su esposa Rana le prohíbe acudir a la policía por miedo a que las personas sepan realmente lo que paso. Sin embargo, cabe acotar que la película no deja claro si Rana fue víctima de un abuso sexual pero si fue golpeada. Ahora bien, ¿Qué harías tú en el caso de estar bajo la piel de Emad? ¿Dejarías todo a un lado como si nada paso?
The truth is that Emad begins to investigate who was the person responsible for his wife's injury and seeks with all his might to find this character. The marriage begins to decline, the problems of this situation begin to affect the couple and neither of them achieves peace.
Keep in mind that there are problems that can destabilize a couple and that they are not necessarily cheating, jealousy and anger. There are very complicated situations that a couple could face because of the dilemma of justice and peace, which sometimes do not go hand in hand and this is exactly what happened to Emad and Rana.
It is important to note that a story that delves into such a realistic problem must contain a cast that performs high quality performances with which we can empathize and understand the feelings that flow under difficult situations and also understand the acts and consequences of our actions.
Lo cierto es que Emad empieza a investigar quien fue la persona responsable del agravio de su esposa y busca con todas sus fuerzas encontrar a este personaje. El matrimonio empieza a decaer, la problemática de esta situación empieza a afectar a la pareja y ninguno de los dos consigue paz.
Hay que tener en cuenta que hay problemas que pueden desestabilizar a una pareja y que no son necesariamente engaños, celos e ira. Hay situaciones muy complicadas que una pareja podría enfrentar porque está el dilema de la justicia y de la paz, que a veces no van de la mano y esto es justamente lo que le paso a Emad y Rana.
Es importante acotar que una historia que ahonda en una problemática tan realista debe contener un elenco que ejecute actuaciones de alta calidad con las cuales podamos empatizar y entender los sentimientos que fluyen bajo situaciones difíciles y tambien entender los actos y consecuencias de nuestras acciones.
Neither Rana nor Emad are guilty of anything but one's actions create consequences that create an overwhelming atmosphere for the couple. As you can see, the theme is very mature and it is not a movie loaded with fantasy but rather a complicated but highly realistic fact that proposes us to investigate the dilemma that I have spoken about from the beginning of this post. Revenge or Forgiveness?
Revenge is always full of poison, it may be temporarily satisfying but it will create a wave of pain within us that we must live with for the rest of our lives. To access forgiveness we must have a calm soul that under difficult difficulties is not easy to access. So the main message of this film is not to leave us a moral message but to create from our own perspective a possible situation if at some point in our lives we would have to live the same thing.
In short, the question is what would you do? And since I obviously do not want to tell the end of the film, I cannot comment on my opinion about it, however I must say that it is very clear.
This is without doubt some other Farhadi masterpiece showing us high quality cinema that is being produced in Iran with very well executed performances. This is cinema for spectators of high standards.
Ni Rana ni Emad son culpables de nada pero los actos de uno crean consecuencias que crean una atmosfera agobiante para la pareja. Como podrá ver la temática es muy madura y no es una película cargada de fantasía sino de un hecho complicado pero sumamente realista que nos propone indagar en el dilema que hable desde el principio de este post ¿Venganza o Perdón?
La venganza está llena siempre de veneno, puede ser satisfactoria temporalmente pero creara una ola de dolor en nuestro interior con la cual debemos vivir por el resto de nuestras vidas.
Para acceder al perdón debemos de tener un alma sosegada que bajo difíciles difíciles no es fácil acceder. Así que el mensaje principal de esta película no es el dejarnos un mensaje moral sino de crear bajo nuestra propia perspectiva una situación posible si en algún momento de nuestras vidas nos tocaría vivir lo mismo.
En pocas palabras la pregunta es ¿Qué harías tú? Y como obviamente no deseo contar el final de la película tampoco puedo comentar mi opinión al respecto, sin embargo debo decir que es muy clara.
Esta es sin duda alguna otra obra maestra de Farhadi mostrándonos un cine de alta calidad que se está produciendo en Irán con actuaciones muy bien ejecutadas. Esto es cine para espectadores de altos estándares.
