Chis-Chis

That is the name of one of the lagoons that make up the system called "Las encadenadas", a name that explains that a whole set of lagoons near the city of Buenos Aires are linked by natural channels, forming a single, very important water system for the region.

The entire area is also an important tourist center, generally for weekends since it is very close to the Federal Capital and is ideal for when you do not have many days to attend more remote tourist areas.

Many years ago all these lagoons were the favorites of sport fishermen, mainly due to the large population and size of the silverside, a species highly valued for the excellent flavor of its meat.

The lack of controls to avoid commercial fishing caused a great decline in the fish population and in this way killed the goose that lays the golden eggs, not everyone knows the importance of sport fishing tourism that moves various sectors of the economy, fundamentally from the area, always in need of fresh, clean and genuine income such as that generated by that large number of enthusiastic fishermen.

Every so often we make a fishing trip with my friends to one of these lagoons, hoping to find, even if it is not a part, of that splendor of other times.

That happened yesterday, the idea we had was to go further, to another lagoon much more distant but that conserves a large population of the coveted fish. It could not be done due to the weather of the previous days and the forecast for the weekend.

So we went to the chained, more precisely to the so-called Chis Chis that owes its name to the language of an ancient and disappeared native people and its meaning is "mud and rough" because that is precisely the bottom of the waters of the lagoon.

The morning was beautiful but cold. Of course, we are in winter and we did not expect anything else. The weather forecast indicated that there would be strong wind and some distant probability of temporary rains in the afternoon.

There was not a single cloud and the sun gave a feeling of warmth and comfort. So we toured the lagoon in a huge rented boat with a new motor that we took. The silverside refused to appear so at noon we stopped on a shore covered with green grass and with a small ravine that sheltered us from a wind that was already beginning to blow firmly.

When we decided to leave the shelter and try to catch some fish again, the wind was already noticeable, dense clouds were approaching from the south. In a few minutes, the temperature dropped several degrees and we began a quick return to the jetty, the waves were getting bigger and making it difficult to maneuver the boat correctly.

Finally, we arrived at the place of departure when it was already a gale and as if it were not enough the rain was present, the drops fell with such force that they made noise on our thick jackets and even some seemed to hurt the little exposed skin of my face covering.

We started the return to Buenos Aires not if before refueling gas in my friend's truck and while we traveled route 2, the sky began to clear and the clouds were scattering, a rainbow was briefly shown and the heating of the vehicle gave us back part of lost heat.
