On May 22, 2020 @jarvie and I hiked the Narrows, which is a slot canyon in Zion National Park. I was so excited. It was on my list of things I wanted to do. The day before we were driving around Zion and saw people at the parking lot dressing up to hike the river. We stopped and talked to them and found out that the river was low enough that they opened it.
We headed to the nearest town and I rented the gear--socks, shoes and pants for the very cold river.
Here is a timeline of our adventure!
7:33am Dress | 7:41 am Start on Riverwalk Trail | 8:03 am Take plant pictures along the way |
8:20am Start on the river | 8:57am Waterfall | 10:28 am picture time |
Yes we did carry our tripods and DSLRs the entire way. Some people thought we were crazy. We wanted great shots and in a slot canyon with little light you need a tripod. They also made great walking sticks!
11:17am break for lunch | 11:38am selfie with new friends from LA | 12:54pm Looking up |
The people on the river were so friendly and from all over the country!
12:51pm Selfie at Wall Street | 12:58pm Wall Street | 1:18pm taking pictures with the good light |
Love that glow!
3:53pm back to the start of the river trail | 4:03pm Hiking back to the car |
New friends, Debbie and Kat, that we gave a ride back into town.
5:21pm Return gear | 5:54pm eat this yummy burger and fries! |
What an amazing adventure.
It was beautiful, hard, we met great people, took great pictures, and walked for a good 9 hours....which is longer than I have ever hiked (pedometer tracked 25,922 steps or 11.04 miles) and ever want to hike again. My back likes shorter hikes.
This hike gets a 7/10
Sara's Rating | Part of hike | My thoughts |
---|---|---|
1 | Access to trail | +Small parking lot next to trail head, -if your late it's a long walk |
1 | Difficulty | Easy to very difficult in parts, we went when the water was very high |
2 | Views | Fantastic |
1 | Destination | Wall street was our destination and it was good |
1 | Time on trial | 9 hours, with the water so high it took a very long time |
Bonus point (1) the people on the trail were so friendly!
I think that under different circumstances, going a shorter distance, during lower water levels, right time of day. It could be a 10/10.
