Moscow releases footage of warning shots fired at British destroyer in Crimean waters

The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage showing Britain's HMS Defender being "chased out of the waters of Crimea " by military aircraft and ships.

The footage comes as the United Kingdom adamantly denied that warning shots had been fired at the Royal Navy destroyer and bombs had been fired in the warship's path.

Russia's defense ministry said a border patrol boat fired shots at HMS Defender after it entered the country's territorial waters in the Black Sea. A Su-24M fighter plane is also said to have dropped four bombs close to the ship.

But the British Ministry of Defense replied that the 152-metre, 8,500-ton vessel "performed harmless passage through Ukrainian territorial waters in accordance with international law".

A statement from the British on Twitter said: "We believe that the Russians were conducting an artillery exercise in the Black Sea and warned the maritime community in advance of their activities. No shots were fired at HMS Defender and we recognize the claim that bombs were have not fallen in her path."
