Nachdem das HiveFest VR wieder mein Interesse fรผr VR (Virtual Reality) geweckt hat, habe ich mir zu Weihnachten endlich mein erstes VR-Headset gekauft, eine Oculus Quest 2, und kann euch schon einiges dazu berichten.
Ich habe VR das erste Mal 2016 ausprobiert und denke, das muss jeder einmal selbst probiert haben, weil es wirklich cool ist und sich sci-fi mรครig anfรผhlt. Fast wie auf dem Holodeck :)
Die Quest 2 ist die neue All-In-One VR-Brille von Facebook (Facebook hat 2014 Oculus gekauft) und stellt eine enorme Verbesserung zu der ersten Headset-Generation dar (Rift CV1 und HTC Vive).
Mittlerweile braucht man nicht einmal mehr einen PC, keine externen Sensoren, keine Kabeln und kann eigentlich sofort loslegen. Das ist unglaublich, wenn man bedenkt wie mรผhsam und teuer VR 2015/16 noch war.
Bin von der Quest 2 begeistert und denke, dass sie im Moment wirklich ein gutes Preis/Leistungsverhรคltnis bietet, vor allem die 64GB Version.
Am beeindruckendsten ist das inside-out Tracking, die Controller und das neue Display der Quest 2, das insgesamt fast 4K schafft, und kaum noch einen merkbaren Screen-Door-Effekt (Fliegengitter-Effekt) hat.
Nachteil ist, das Headset ist relativ frontlastig und nach kurzer Tragzeit bekomme ich einen roten Streifen auf der Stirn, wahrscheinlich wegen der Hitze und des Drucks und man kann von VR motion-sick werden. Das ist ein generelles Problem von VR. Das menschliche Gehirn ist noch nicht fรผr VR optimiert ๐
Und man braucht zwingend einen Facebook-Account (!), allerdings muss man Facebook zugutehalten, dass sie mit Oculus Link auch eine Verbindung zum PC und sogar SteamVR Games erlauben und man auch Apps sideloaden kann.
Allerdings ist Oculus Link eine Herausforderung und bei mir im Moment sehr buggy. Mein Gaming PC stรผrzt nach kurzer Zeit ab und ist plรถtzlich extrem instabil geworden. Denke es liegt wahrscheinlich an der USB-Verbindung. Muss das noch weiter testen.

After HiveFest VR revived my interest in VR (virtual reality) again, I finally bought my first VR headset for xmas, an Oculus Quest 2, and can already tell you a few things about it.
I tried VR for the first time in 2016 and I think everyone needs to try it once for themselves, because it's really cool and feels like sci-fi. Almost like being on the holodeck from Star Trek :)
The Quest 2 is Facebook's new all-in-one VR headset (Facebook bought Oculus in 2014) and is a huge improvement over the first generation headsets (Rift CV1 and HTC Vive).
Meanwhile, you don't even need a PC any more, no external sensors, no cables, and you can actually get started right away. That's incredible considering how cumbersome and expensive VR still was in 2015/16.
Am excited about the Quest 2 and think it really offers a good bang for buck at the moment, especially the 64GB version.
Most impressive is the inside-out tracking, the controllers, and the new display of the Quest 2, which manages nearly 4K overall, and has barely any noticeable screen-door effect (fly-screen effect).
Downside is, the headset is relatively front-heavy and after a short time of wearing it I get a red streak on my forehead, probably due to the heat and pressure and you can get motion sick from VR. This is a general problem with VR btw. The human brain is not yet optimized for VR ๐.
And you absolutely need a Facebook account (!), though you have to give Facebook credit that with Oculus Link they also allow you to connect to PC and even SteamVR games and you can sideload apps as well.
However, Oculus Link is a challenge and very buggy for me at the moment. My gaming PC crashes after a short time and has suddenly become very unstable. Think it's probably due to the USB connection. Must test this further.
