Hi everyone
My greetings to you
Hope you are doing well
Today I am here with a beautiful flower plant that is found very commonly in India. Anywhere you go either schools, colleges, temples, parks, gardens and you will find this plant. This is a small plant. It's name in Hindi is Sadabahaar, that means evergreen and yes it is an evergreen plant not a seasonal one. It will stay green all around the year.
So that is the reason it's called Sadabhaar in Hindi.
Scientific name of this plant is Catharanthus Roseus and it belongs to the family Apocynaceae
It is commonly known with other names too
Bright eyes
Cape periwinkle
Pink periwinkle
Medagaskar periwinkle
Graveyard plant
Old maid
Rose periwinkle
It is known as Medagaskar periwinkle due to the fact that it is native to Medagaskar region.
I have seen it's flowers in two colors that I am sharing. It's pink and white color. Both of the colors form a beautiful contrast with the green leaves of the plant.
Though it is native to Medagaskar region, it is naturalized to many other countries like Australia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc
Apart from being an ornamental plant, it also holds a special place in Ayurveda It is widely cultivated as a medicinal plant too.
All parts of this plant are considered to be toxic when consumed by human beings but it's extracts are used in various Ayurvedic medicines to treat the various diseases.
So that's all about Pink Periwinkle 😊
Hope you too like this beautiful flower.
