After rejoining Manchester United from Juventus, Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he will wear the No. 7 shirt.

After posting confirmation of an agreement with Ronaldo to make the move the previous Friday, the Old Trafford club announced on Monday that he had officially signed.

immediately after posting a teaser staple of a United shirt with his name on the back, the club broadcasted on Thursday that Ronaldo would wear the No. 7 shirt that has become part of his CR7 brand and that he wore during his first spell at the club.

Edinson Cavani was given the No. 7 shirt at the start of the season after wearing it the previous season, and he wore it against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Cavani will take the No. 21 shirt, which he currently wears for Uruguay, which was left vacant by Daniel James' departure to Leeds United.

United tweeted a photo of Ronaldo and Cavani arm-in-arm during an international match, along with the words "mark of the man" and a statement from the Portugal captain, which read: "I wasn't sure if I'd be able to wear the No. 7 shirt again, so I'd like to thank Edi for this incredible gesture."

Ronaldo spent a season as Real Madrid's No. 9 after leaving United, while club legend Raul Gonzalez kept the No. 7 for his final season. Since then, Ronaldo has worn the No. 7 exclusively for Real Madrid and Juventus, as well as for Portugal.

The No. 7 shirt is a United legend, having been worn by George Best, Bryan Robson, Eric Cantona, and David Beckham in the past.
The players who wore it since Ronaldo's departure in 2009 have struggled to live up to the hype. When Michael Owen arrived that summer, he wore the No. 7 jersey for three seasons.

It was given to Antonio Valencia for a season in 2012, but he was demoted to the No. 25 after a slump in form.

Angel Di Maria took the No. 7 shirt for United in the 2013-14 season, but Di Maria left for Paris Saint-Germain less than a year later. After that, it went to Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez before finally falling to Cavani in 2020.
