Hello, dear Hivers! 👋🏻
In the next few posts I've decided to present to you one of the most beautiful cities in the world - Barcelona. For this purpose I will make a consequence of travel blogs, and in each of them I will present to you a landmark or object on the territory of Barcelona. 🇪🇸
If you are a fan of fairy tales and like Alice, you want to find yourself in Wonderland, do not miss the opportunity to visit Park Güell in Barcelona, Spain. This place will definitely take you to a fairy tale, the scripts of which you will write yourself.
This blog is about Park Güell
Park Güell is one of the architectural jewels of Barcelona and one of the most impressive public parks in the world.
History of Park Guel
Designed by Antonio Gaudi on behalf of the Spanish industrial magnate Eusebi Güell, who intended to create a modern residential complex located on one of the hills of the city, where one can escape from the hectic city life and find salvation in nature. 🏞
The best view I've ever seen 😊
It is said that Güell was a wealthy industrialist and a good friend of the then young architect Anthony Gaudi. Güell dreamed of creating a place where people could live in peace outside the noise and crowds of the big city, surrounded only by nature.
To do this, he bought a piece of land on one of the hills in Barcelona and asked Gaudi to design a mini green town. He gladly set about it, but after a while he found out that the construction would be more expensive than expected and instead of the planned 63 houses between 1900 and 1914 only two were built.
After a while, the municipality turned the place into a park and named it after its initiator - Güell.
Location of Park Güell
Today, Park Güell is located above the Gracia district and is open to the public. As it is far from the center, to get to it you can catch bus number 24 or take the metro line L3.
What to see in Park Güell
My personal advice to you is to visit the park in the early hours of the day, because the rest of the time is full of tourists who are eagerly waiting to be photographed in front of one of the beautiful mosaic statues.
It will be difficult for us to find a place even on the long serpentine bench, which is located in the park and which is said to be made of materials from the former landfill in the area.
Not a single witch lives in the houses, which seem to be made of sugar. On the other hand, the one in which Gaudi spent the last years of his life has been turned into a museum and inside you can see various furniture designed by him.
Gaudi is said to have been fond of Greek and Catalan mythology, so don't be surprised by the images of dragons and lizards that are almost everywhere, albeit well hidden.
Statue of dracon-lizard - the symbol of Barcelona
A large lizard, strewn with many multicolored ceramic tiles, stands the base and seems to guard the entrance to it.
Take a closer look at the columns and you will find them there.
The view here is not to be underestimated, as the park is located on a hill and you can enjoy Barcelona from a bird's eye view.
180 degree view of Barcelona
The park is not very big and you will need about 30 minutes to go around it.
