Travel is my therapy Part 1 📍Sibiu, Romania 🇷🇴

Hello, everyone! Today I decided to tell you about my Erasmus + mobility. For two months I had the opportunity to study at “Nicolae Balcescu” Military Academy in Sibiu, Romania.

Sibiu is a city and administrative center of Sibiu County, Transylvania, Romania. The distance from Veliko Tarnovo to Sibiu takes about 7 hours, and it is most convenient to travel in the direction of Bucharest and from there to get on the highway to Pitesti. The mountain section after that is quite busy, but the roads are well made and the nature around is worth seeing.

The city is an important economic and cultural center in the region. It was chosen as the cultural capital of Europe along with Luxembourg in 2007.🏛
Sibiu was founded by German settlers 🇩🇪 in 1190, probably near a Roman settlement known in the Early Middle Ages as Caedonia, which remained uninhabited upon the arrival of the Saxons. Until the middle of the 19th century, the city remained inhabited almost exclusively by Saxons, after which the rural population gradually began to move to the cities, and by the 1930s, Sibiu was dominated by Romanians.

1. Walk and photos of the large square (Piața Mare).

It is best to start your romantic walk from the Upper Town of Sibiu. The beautiful square in the center is from the 15th century and reminds us a lot of the main square in Brasov. Against the setting sun, the beautiful buildings of the square, which have preserved the spirit of the 15th century, will transport you back in time and you will feel like in a fairy tale.

2. The Small Square (Piață Mică)

Just below the tower of the Great Square of Sibiu there are tunnels through which you will pass to the next interesting part of the romantic tour of the Romanian town - the Small Square. There you will find restaurants, shops, charming places that scream to be 📸.

3. The Bridge of Lies (Podul Mincinosilor) 🌉

The Bridge of Lies is actually the first metal bridge in the country - since as far back as 1859. The legend of the bridge says that if you are on it and tell a lie, it will collapse. Whether this is the case or not, no one knows, because there is no information stored about the collapse of the bridge to this day.

4. The Tower of the City Council 🗼

For a modest sum of 2-3 lei (0.50 euro cents) you have the opportunity to climb to the top of the City Tower, which offers a view of the entire city.

Astra Museum Complex and Sibiu Zoo The Astra Open-Air Museum is located near Sibiu Zoo. If you want to visit both attractions, take a day for each.

What is the open-air museum complex? Charming houses, a wooden church, mills, everything about the architecture and life of the Romanian village. The complex was opened in 1905 and to this day enjoys unprecedented interest. Visit it when it is sunny and warm, because all the exhibits are outdoors.

If you have enough time and desire, you can buy a combined ticket for the zoo and the museum, because it is cheaper. The price for visiting the Astra is 20 lei and about the same for the zoo, if you visit them separately.
