I consider this as Darren Aronofsky's most ambitious work from any aspect, be it script, photography or soundtrack, leaving us a purely artistic revelation with high claims and a more than overwhelmed ambition.
The whole film is an allegory towards humanity, its beginnings and its development. If we process this film from a biblical point of view, life can be made much easier for us because it is not easy to digest as well as most of the author's titles, starting with Pi.
Since none of the characters have a name, I am going to classify them as what their identities symbolize. He (God) is a famous writer who has a handicap at the time of writing and decides to go to a house that was burned and destroyed to get inspiration. She (Mother) is with him at all times and begins to restore the house little by little.
Considero a esta como la obra más ambiciosa de Darren Aronofsky desde cualquier aspecto, bien sea guion, fotografía o soundtrack dejándonos una revelación puramente artística con altas pretensiones y una ambición más que desbordada.
Toda la película es una alegoría hacia la humanidad, sus inicios y su desarrollo. Si procesamos esta película desde un punto de visto bíblico se nos puede hacer la vida mucho más fácil porque no es fácil de digerir así como la mayoría de títulos del autor, comenzando por Pi.
Como ninguno de los personajes tiene un nombre voy a catalogarlos como lo que simbolizan sus identidades. El (Dios), es un escritor famoso que tiene una traba al momento de escribir y decide irse a una casa que fue quemada y destruida para conseguir inspiración. Ella (Madre) esta con el en todo momento y empieza a restaurar la casa poco a poco.
The problems begin when a visitor arrives at the house by mistake, thinking that it was an inn or at least that was his excuse. This visitor then begins to take permits and licenses in the house, bringing his wife. It should be noted that we could consider this pair of visitors as Adam and Eve but their children would soon arrive, creating chaos and of course, as in the story of Genesis, Cain kills Abel out of envy and jealousy.
Los problemas empiezan cuando un visitante llega a la casa por error, pensando que era una posada o al menos esa era su excusa. Este visitante luego empieza a tomarse permisos y licencias en la casa, trayendo a su mujer. Cabe acotar que podríamos considerar a este par de visitantes como Adán y Eva pero pronto llegarían los hijos de estos, creando un caos y por supuesto como en la historia del Génesis, Caín mata a Abel por envidia y celos.
After all these events, numerous visitors begin to arrive at the house, with the excuse of the death of one of the boys. They disrespect mother's home constantly, causing her to lose patience more and more while He (God) does nothing about it, only consumed in his own ego by the visitors who give him attention.
Mother and he have a strong discussion that ends with a sexual reconciliation which results in a baby, the long-awaited mother's baby and at birth He (God) recovers the muses and finishes a book. Immediately a horde of fanatics begin to arrive at the place with praise and adulation to the writer.
Tras todos estos acontecimientos, numerosos visitantes empiezan a llegar a la casa, con la excusa de la muerte de uno de los chicos. Irrespetan el hogar de madre constantemente, haciendo que esta empiece a perder la paciencia cada vez más mientras que El (Dios) no hace nada al respecto solo se consume en su propio ego por los visitantes que le dan atención.
Madre y el tienen una fuerte discusión que termina con una reconciliación sexual lo que viene como resultado un bebe, el tan ansiado bebe de madre y al nacer El (Dios) recupera las musas y termina un libro. Inmediatamente una horda de fanáticos empiezan a llegar al lugar con alabanzas y adulaciones al escritor.
Confused mother does not understand anything and the house continues to be disrespected but with greater determination. Despite numerous vicissitudes, the baby manages to be born but the fans are still there, managing to get hold of the baby and presenting us with what is perhaps the most macabre scene in the entire film: They begin to devour the baby. The latter can perhaps be taken as the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on earth and part of the Christian liturgy of drinking wine (the blood of Christ) and eating bread (the body of Christ) presented in the most visceral way possible.
As you will see, the entire film is an allegory but not only with religious and human reasons but also with ecological ones. Mother, constantly listens to the heartbeat of the house, because the house itself is itself, making an allegory of mother nature. We humans take care of disrespecting this mother, with fights, contamination, disturbances that we will be able to appreciate throughout the process of the film. Therefore it is easy to appreciate an environmentalist tone in this production.
Madre confusa no entiende nada y la casa sigue siendo irrespetada pero con mayor ahínco. El bebe pese a numerosas vicisitudes logra nacer pero los fanáticos siguen allí, consiguiendo hacerse con él bebe y presentándonos lo que quizás sea la escena más macabra de toda la película: Empiezan a devorar al bebe. Esto último quizás puede ser tomado como el sacrificio de Jesucristo en la tierra y parte de la liturgia cristiana de beber vino (la sangre de Cristo) y comer el pan (el cuerpo de Cristo) presentado de la manera más visceral posible.
Como verán la película entera es una alegoría pero no solo con motivos religiosos y humanos sino también ecológicos. Madre, constantemente escucha los latidos de la casa, porque la casa en si es ella misma, haciendo una alegoría de la madre naturaleza. Nosotros los humanos nos encargamos de irrespetar esta madre, con peleas, contaminación, disturbios que podremos apreciar en todo el proceso de la película. Por consiguiente es fácil apreciar un tono ecologista en esta producción.
It is not difficult to see a criticism of religion itself and the counterproductive effects it has had on humanity, but the film goes further by criticizing the effects of flattery on an indifferent being towards the chaos generated by its creation. This is a very dark vision towards religion that I imagine that the believers who captured this must not have been very happy, therefore the film had good and bad reviews at the same time.
To see this film it takes a double effort, first to be enchanted with the beautiful photography with which it was recorded and second to try to capture all the details and allegories that are in the plot and of which I am sure I have not discovered all. This director has always had ambitions of this caliber, but with this film he went too far and in my opinion it blows my mind because I never expected something similar from this film.
No es difícil ver una crítica hacia la religión en sí misma y los efectos contraproducentes que esta han tenido en la humanidad pero la película va mas allá criticando los efectos de la adulación a un ser indiferente hacia el caos generado por su creación. Esta es una visión muy oscura hacia la religión que me imagino que los creyentes que captaron esto no debieron estar muy contentos, por ende la película tuve criticas buenas y malas a la par.
Para ver esta película se necesita un doble esfuerzo, primero para embelesarnos con la hermosa fotografía con que fue grabada y segundo para intentar captar todos los detalles y alegorías que se encuentran en la trama y de los que estoy seguro que no he descubierto todos. Este director siempre ha tenido ambiciones de este calibre pero con esta película fue demasiado lejos y en mi opinión me dejo boquiabierto porque nunca me espere algo similar de esta cinta.
At first it can be boring and even monotonous but also from the beginning it smells something strange, something that will not leave us indifferent and the climax suddenly develops and everything makes sense if we know how to capture the constant winks that the director leaves us. This is a work that should be seen a couple of times to try to elucidate as much as possible what our eyes capture, with this I mean that it is not an easy movie to spend a Sunday with the family but quite the opposite, it is a crude film, with Creepy images and situations with an even more morbid underlying plot that criticizes us as human beings and in a way speculates what may happen if we continue down these paths.
Without a doubt, I recommend this film with closed eyes, especially to viewers who like to think and analyze while watching a shoot, those who read between the lines and know how to capture what the director tries to communicate to us in an allegorical way. This is a film that I applaud and together with Black Swan I consider this as the best works of Darren Aronofsky.
Al principio puede ser aburrida y hasta monótona pero también desde sus inicios huele a algo extraño, algo que no nos dejara indiferentes y el clímax de repente se desarrolla y todo cobra sentido si sabemos captar los guiños constantes que nos deja el director. Esta es una obra que debe verse un par de veces para intentar dilucidar lo más posible lo que nuestros ojos captan, con esto quiero decir que no es una película fácil para pasar un domingo en familia sino todo lo contrario, es una película cruda, con imágenes y situaciones espeluznantes y con un trama subyacente aún más mórbida que nos critica como seres humanos y de cierta manera especula lo que puede suceder en el caso de que sigamos por estos caminos.
Sin duda alguna recomiendo esta película con los ojos cerrados en especial a los espectadores que les gusta pensar y analizar mientras ven un rodaje, aquellos que leen entre líneas y saben captar lo que el director intenta comunicarnos de manera alegórica. Este es un film que aplaudo y junto a Black Swan considero a este como las mejores obras de Darren Aronofsky.
