I've been bringing a lot of thoughtful content to my blog these days. More than anything, my intention is always to open a debate or at least generate curiosity in the reader, so that he/she starts to build new points of view.

I guess it is also because I am very inspired and motivated to work on this. I have taken a few days off to reorganize my ideas and determine what direction I want to give to my blog.

Today I would like to talk to you about a topic that touches us all very closely, we have all lived it both in first person and as spectators as well.

Since the permanent installation (so far) of social networks, we have been involved in a new behavior that is somewhat detrimental to the mental health of some people, that is, immediacy. Beyond calling it as the "digital era" which, is totally valid, let's also consider calling it as the "era of immediacy".

Where we have educated ourselves little by little to always be available when a situation arises, whether it is a simple text message, a call or even in person.

Let me simplify a little bit the point I want to get to.

Many of us, if not most of us, have been in the awkward situation of explaining why we haven't answered a message at the very moment we receive one. And, if we haven't experienced it face to face, we know the story of someone who has.

I can tell you with certainty that during the birth of social networks this type of situation was not experienced, starting because everything was so new. But, a decade after all this, we have seen the opposite. People are getting used to us being on the other side of the screen waiting to respond to them.

All of this ends up becoming an exhausting situation, where most of the energy you have throughout the day, you start to drain it by answering messages a second later just so that the receiver does not feel alluded by the fact that he/she has been 30 minutes waiting for a response.

As a brief clarification, I refer to this subject from the point of view of the daily routine of a day, obviously the case of emergencies is exempt from everything that is written here.

This "phenomenon", if we could call it that, has had a snowball effect over the years. It has also escalated to a new level, not only in our social relationships, but also in our work relationships.

Heads get buried a little deeper into phone screens every day. It is now very rare to walk around and look people straight in the eye. Bosses have become accustomed to calling you on your days off and after hours. "The world is waiting for an answer IMMEDIATELY."

And little by little, boundaries have been going under the table. For fear of losing a friendship, a relationship or a job, we have become slaves to messaging and calling, losing our personal space even when we are home alone.

We do not allow our brain to have a conversation with us, a space for analysis and introspection, because we must answer a message as soon as possible.

All this has led me to have a kind of animosity to social relationships today, I have gone from being a person who was always attentive to the sound of a notification, to one who turns off the phone. Because I understood that my mental health was being damaged by this whole situation.

I felt anxious when a message arrived and at the same time, I was afraid when it took me longer than expected to respond. I have encountered people along the way who, when I didn't respond to a message immediately, started calling my phone, demanding an explanation as to why it took me so long to access the messaging application.

I learned that the one I must attend to as a priority is myself, and that people had to learn to wait. I have not pretended that other people respond to me the moment I send a message, nor do I expect them to do it when they "can" but rather, when they want to.

This has also happened in the real world, when many people demand immediate explanations from us in the middle of "discussions". I say this because I have lived it. On many occasions I have not been allowed to digest the information, take a break or prevent emotions from acting on my behalf, just because they expect an immediate response from me.

I know it is not easy for everyone to understand, especially for the person who really expects that response in the same moment. But just as we adapt to new technologies, we should learn to adapt and respect the spaces and individualities of others.

What do you think about this issue?
