Trudeau Consults Hillary Clinton on Afghanistan, Campaign Falls Apart for Liberals

Justin Trudeau's disastrous Tuesday press conference and a surprising provincial election result in Nova Scotia show a rough start for the Liberal Party campaign heading into the September 20th snap election. During his campaign speech on Tuesday, Trudeau also mentioned how he spoke with Hillary Clinton about Afghanistan. Several media outlets criticized Joe Biden on Tuesday for not speaking with other world leaders immediately after the fall of Kabul leading more people to question why Hillary had consulted Trudeau on the issue instead.

In related news, Canada's chief electoral officer today said that the results of the upcoming federal election will likely be delayed due to a significant increase in mail-in ballots. "I know that Canadians are used to getting complete results on election night but it will be different for this election," Stéphane Perrault said at a press conference on Wednesday. Perrault says if the volume of mail-in ballots is high there could be delays after the election of two to five days before results are announced.
