Typical Dutch windmills

Picture a day

Every day another picture...

The Netherlands is famous for a couple of things and the windmill is one of them.
These are two of the many windmills that are still in our neighbourhood. In the past these windmills were were used to drain water from the polders. Nowadays this is done by electric pumps and are the windmills no longer necessary.
They do have historic value but are kept as monuments. Volunteers maintain the windmills and sometimes give small tours.
The one in the front is the oldest windmill from this region and dates from 1735. The one in the back dates from 1752.

Photographing is my passion. Although I like photography in general, nature photography is one of my favourite subjects. I often go out with my camera for a hike to capture the beauty of nature.
