Golden Temple, Amritsar, India. It is also called Sri Harmandir Sahib (Abode Of God). It is most prominent place in Sikhism. It's foundation was laid in 1589. The Gurudwara is built around a man made sarovar (pool).

Mughal and Afghan armies destroyed it many times. Maharaja Ranjit Singh, after founding the Sikh Empire, rebuilt it in marble and copper in 1809, and overlaid the sanctum with Gold foil in 1830. This has led to the name the Golden Temple.

It's is one of most visited monuments in the world and it's kitchen is said to be the world's largest community kitchen in the world. It serves nearly 100,000 people daily. The free food offered here is known as langar.
