Summertime, Stay Cool When the Beach is Out of Reach!

It’s not Dunn’s River falls in Jamaica, it’s not even really a water fall but boy was it refreshing. As @bearmol said, parents are on a mission to make sure the kids have fun during the summer and at the same time, keep cool. I had a short 4 day summer break and everyday as soon as the kids got up, their first question was, “where are we going today?”. There is no such thing as stay home and chill when you have kids, and if you do, it is to your detriment.

Seeing as there are no beaches nearby, we did the next best thing and took it to the river and the pool, the beach will come later in the summer. ( had planned to go to the beach last Thursday but the exact beach we were planning to go to had a shark attack a day before we planned to go and the individual actually died.)

We actually went to a real river and drove a decent hour up some one way dirt roads only to realize that the waters may be a bit dangerous for the kids. I was ready to dive in though, but safety first. So we went to this man made river with water flowing from a dam. We made our way through the other side of the hill up some more roads less traveled. After 30 minutes, we arrived at the location in a bit of a shaken thrill like we just went to a scary amusement park (the roads were that bad). Here, the kids could actually just walk around and not be in any danger, they could also catch grabs.

This is actually a good spot for families as there are toilets, the last thing you wanna do is tell your kids and wife to go shit in the bush or the river 😂! Though that would be some good survival skills. This spot also has camping and bbq grounds if you wanna live that camp-ish life. This spot is located in in Ashikaga and it is called Umeda Gawa.

Stay Cool at the pool, Day 2

Interestingly if you don’t have kids you can’t go to this pool and you wouldn’t want to as it is shin deep.Perfect for the kids though. The pool had a capacity limit and you could only stay for a certain amount of time ( morning or evening session)

It was my youngest son’s first time at the pool and surprisingly he did not cry ( unlike at the river). He had a blast cruising around on my back. Below is a view of the huge pool in the middle of the hilly terrain. There is a river nearby as well, but better for fishing not so much swimming. Hmmmm, gotta try some fishing this summer with the kids, I can imagine the cost of the equipment here though.

The monster twins had a blast at the pool and river, even though they show no gratitude. As soon as we went home and I told them to take a bath or asked them to do some simple stuff like pick up the toys 🧸, it’s kiddy tantrum cussing time, so of course that’s when the Jamaican in me really comes out “pick up the bomboclaat toys or mi dash dem way”. Do they understand? If not the words, the vibration. I’m not the most patient when it comes to kids, it’s something I’m working on, but I do realize, fighting fire with fire never really turns out well. It’s better to be cool like the pool and river!

Cheers 🥂, happy summer and may your bags be pumped and not dumped!
