'Snowpiercer' (2013) - My thoughts on the film

I have been so out of the loop when it comes to movies that it's not even funny. I used to be a movie nerd, but for various reasons I have completely fallen off in my movie watching.

I've never heard of this movie till today, it's on Netflix!

I thought about calling this post a film review but I don't think this rant I'm about to do exactly qualifies as a review.

First of all I absolutely love this movie! I thought it was fantastic. Just my style.

I pretty much immediately liked the vibe of this movie. It's dark and bleak with very little hope for a bright future. Sounds depressing, but these types of plots I enjoy because the characters really have to dig deep to improve their circumstances and so it usually can lead to an inspiring story.

The movie is about people trapped on a train because the entire world froze as a result of a failed attempt to cool down the earth from 'global warming'. The train they ride on is very high tech and rides around the planet infinitely.

This movie involves pretty much a little everything. The story involves society classes, as each train kinda sorta goes up in class. The very last car is like the peasants and then as you proceed the lifestyles of the passengers steadily increases in quality.

The peasants in the back live a rough life on several different levels. They're dirty, hungry, poor, etc. They're not allowed to ever leave their section of the train or they face extremely violent consequences from the police and more elite classes up front. They're supposed to stat in their place.

The movie is basically about the challenges the poor folk from the last train car face as they attempt to force their way to the front and confront/kill the train creator.

Why I loved Snowpiercer

I loved this movie because of how it mimics real life. Some of these things are obvious. Each car/class, is just like modern day society.

But it's not that simple. I love this movie for other reasons as well.

SPOILERS!!!!

At the end of the film, it turns out that the leader/creator of the train manufactured the whole revolution that the main character/main cast were attempting. The leader of the train even wanted to make the main character the next in line to basically be the trains leader going forward!!!!

Like bruh!!! It's not the most crazy twist, but it was pretty cool. Pretty much every conspiracy theorist agrees that many events or revolutions are manufactured, and funded by the elite class.

Leaders are chosen, not elected in many cases.

I believe if you look at society right now, most would agree something along those lines are happening in real life as we speak.

On top of that, in the movie the earth is basically a giant ball of ice. But one of the main characters believes that the earth is becoming slightly warmer and more habitable. So in the end they end up blowing up a door to the train to escape to the outside.

The amount this movie mirrors society and/or possible conspiracy is kind of amazing.

The train is obviously, as I said, modern society where there are classes. Lower classes often feel stuck at the bottom, and in extreme cases they feel the need to start a revolution as they do in this film. Like in society, the people often feel just during a revolution but much of the time it's all manufactured and controlled.

Now, perhaps I'm misinterpreting it, but it's art so it is what it is. But the concept of the train becoming ultimately de-railed and then society essentially starting from scratch is interesting on several levels.

Major symbology lets get DEEP

At the end when they reach the front of the train the main character sees the engine that supposedly is supposed to last FOREVER.

The main character (played by Chris Evans aka Captain America btw) looks into the engine as though he's basically hypnotized, then a clairvoyant character senses that there's a child helping work the train and Chris Evans sorta snaps put of it.

Like bro, the layers. The machine/train is big government? Ran by the people? The elite of the train are always saying each person is assigned a job....

To be frank the engine thing could be a symbol for a lot. Even some Matrix type of crap.

Then when I think of the whole 'its getting warm out' part of the movie I find incredibly fascinating.

First of all the main character who discovered the possibility the earth is warming back up was doing drugs and was often mocked and discredited for the fact that he was on drugs AND because everyone was absolutely convinced that it was going to stay cold on the earth pretty much forever. It looked frozen out and that's what everyone was always being told.

Bro......

Pretty much any conspiracy theorist feels like that guy first of all. Everyone that trusts mainstream news treats conspiracy theorists like that guy. Also whether or not the creator of the train knew the earth was warming is unknown. But this situation also resembles the modern day information war.

Either governments know certain info, and accuse conspiracy theorists of being crazy and incorrect. Or sometimes conspiracy theorists can be correct and the government and scientists are flat out wrong.

Just a cool concept.

Also, on the train there are people who knew of lIfe before the infinite train ride, or there are children called 'train babies' who know ONLY the train and know nothing of lIfe on earth.

All the train babies know is what the older folk tell them of life before and whatever info the trains elite feeds them.....

BRUHHHHHH

What a concept. It reminds me of lost past civilizations perhaps whispers of those cultures getting past down. Whisper down the alley.....

Reminds me of little old me, as a dude on the way bottom of the totem pole, being taught by the government since I was born...

In the movie, the train is basically their world. They're told there is nothing else to live on except that train. No other way to live or survive....

Makes you wonder about your own habitat and if we are being told everything...

Why was Chris Evans infatuated with that engine?

Hmmm

Fascinating film that really makes you think.

The train car/class concept might not blow your mind but this movie is executed perfectly man.

Hope this rant came out readable. But then again, oh well.

That's the beauty of Hive. Where at least my rants have a CHANCE of making some money LOL.

If you haven't seen this movie go for it! If you have seen it let me know what you think!

Just found out there's a TV show with this same name and it appears the same concept, I assume they're directly related? I'll have to do some research.

Hive on folks!
