Teach me from your wisdom

I was deeply touched by this video. It is a short movie with interviews of people who are over 100 years old. How do they see life? What can we learn from them? One of them is still alive, two have passed away.

I always liked to listen to people's stories. I think that the elderly could have some interesting perspectives in regards to the matters of the heart and also about life in general.

I was amazed to see the joy of living in the eyes of these people.

Oh my marriage was absolutely wonderful. Heavenly, heavenly, heavenly. I lived with him from the age of sixteen until he died at the age of seventy.” Tereza Harper

It seems that love is a key ingredient of long living people. I liked how her whole face lighted up when she spoke about her sweetheart, although he is no longer with her. The power of love never ceases to amaze me and I do believe that the quality of our relationships help us long term to live better and happier. I could not imagine growing old alone, without no one to love you, hold you and cuddle with you when you need it the most. It would be a terrible thought to experience a life filled with solitary nights.

The importance of memories is significant. Old people live on memories. When people close to your heart die, all you have left is the memory of them. I also think that we should value experiences, creating beautiful moments with our loved ones, bonding through meaningful conversations away from technology. A walk in the park, a trip, a photo, all of these will add up and matter once we age.

It's always good to listen more than to talk. We do it too little when we are young. But I realize that wisdom comes by listening with your mind and understanding with your heart.

What's the best advice you ever received from an older person? Did it help you to be happy? I would love to know.

One of the best advices I received is from my grandmother: always put yourself first, be independent, dream and take care of your body & mind and seek quality people to surround yourself with. The most touching words she always ended her conversations with me were: do not grow old and alone, solitude is terrible. After I watched her doing that bravely for decades, I can agree with her on that.

Have a blessed day and toodle loo!
