Ugur Sahin und Özlem Türeci sind wohl das berühmteste Forscherpaar in Deutschland. Beide Forscher waren vorher als Krebsärzte beschäftigt und anschließend entwickelten sie zusammen einen der wirksamsten Impfstoffe gegen Corona. Das Unternehmen Biontech besteht bereits seit 2008 aber erst die Krise zeigte das Potential der Firma. Heute ist Sahin einer der führenden Köpfe wenn es um die zukünftige MRNA Technologie handelt und diese verspricht enormes Potential.
Der Firmenstandort ist dabei schon eine eigene Prophezeiung, denn "An der Goldgrube" in Mainz lässt schon auf einiges schließen. Der Erfolg wird jetzt schon mit der Karriere von Elon Musk verglichen, auch wenn die Persönlichkeiten stark unterschiedlich sind. Understatement trifft hier auf einen Marktschreier könnte man sagen. Ein deutscher Elon Musk der auf seine Projekte medial aufmerksam macht ist Sahin einfach nicht, es wirkt sogar als würde er die Öffentlichkeit eher meiden wollen.
Obwohl der Erfolg dem Unternehmerpaar recht gibt, bleiben sie stets Bodenständig, denn Statussymbole bedeuten den beiden nichts. Anders sieht es ja vielleicht mit dem Nobelpreis aus, denn dieser könnte eventuell mal wieder an eine medizinische Erfindung verliehen werden, obwohl dies nur sehr selten vorkommt. Vorerst müssen sie sich halt mit dem Axel Springer Award zufrieden geben aber das ist ja vielleicht nur der Anfang.
Zurecht gelten beide Eheleute als Musterbeispiel für eine gelungene Integration. Deutschland und die Pharma und Impfstoffbranche sind ein Schlüssel für die Zukunft. Wenn die Produktion jetzt auch noch wieder lokal hergestellt werden kann, dann sind wir ja vielleicht bald wider die Apotheke der Welt und die beiden Eheleute haben tatkräftig dabei mitgeholfen.

The situation might be different with the Nobel Prize, because it could possibly be awarded to a medical invention again, although this only happens very rarely. For the time being, they have to be satisfied with the Axel Springer Award, but maybe that's just the beginning.
Both spouses are rightly regarded as prime examples of successful integration. Germany and the pharmaceutical and vaccine industry are a key to the future. If production can now also be made locally again, then perhaps we will soon be the pharmacy of the world again, and the two spouses have actively helped to achieve this.
