Daring The Impossible

There are many things that, if we had lived many years ago, we would not have believed that they will be possible. Take for instance: in this era, people can connect with others from the comfort of their houses through their mobile phones. Rewind to the 18th century, if you had talked about something like this, they would have screamed "impossible". As a matter of fact, if you have the opportunity to travel back in time, there is no way to explain this kind of technology to people of that time without being accused of witchcraft. But now, we see them as technology because people dared the seemingly impossible.

Most times, people are too quick to conclude that something they do not understand is impossible but it does not mean it is impossible. More so the only thing that perceives impossibility is your mind, and that is also what sends fear in the mind of many. You will agree with me that when fear attacks the mind, the zeal to take daring risks will be gone.

Many people are not victims of some supernatural forces somewhere but are basically victims of their own fear. When fear is present, motion may be hampered and success may be delayed or outrightly denied. Most times, these fears do not come automatically but grow from something seemingly harmless into a "two-headed monster".

Fears can manifest in quite a number of ways but the ultimate purpose is to stop the person from taking steps. This can include fear of taking the first step, fear of daring and failing. Well, just to let you know, it is better to take risks towards something big or something worthwhile even though you may stand the risk of failing, than to sit and not take any steps and hope to see success. A mentor of mine made this particular statement:

Doing something, taking a big risk and failing does not make you a failure, and it is better than succeeding at doing nothing.

When you dare the impossible, you will achieve the unimaginable and you will blaze new trails and chart the course for new paths. In the world of science for example, when you take a look at inventors of renown, you will realize that at some point, they were able to go extra mile to do what others thought could not be done.

Prior to the invention of airplane, there was a heavy opposition to it and it was even said that it was impossible for a flying machine that weighs more than air to be created. Well, we all know that the modern airplanes weighs many tonnes more than air and can fly - all thanks to the men (the Wright brothers) who were able to dare the impossible and now, they have engraved their names in the history book: From bicycle repairers to inventors.

In the course of daring the impossible, you may encounter many challenges and even see a number of failed attempts but it should neither dampen your spirit nor discourage you from trying again. In affirmation to this truth, I will drop a quote from Confucius (one of China's most celebrated mentors of the ancient time), he said:

Our glory does not lie in not failing but it basically lies in rising up again after failing.
