The city of Damietta is the capital of the province named after it, located in the far north of the Republic of Egypt, and before the branch of the Nile River, Damietta, also pours into the waters of the Mediterranean Sea by about five-tenths of an inch. The city of Damietta is about 70 km away, and Alexandria is about 200 km away. The city of Damietta is of agricultural importance. It is home to guava and palm trees, which are more than two and a half million trees. Trees have wide areas of land.
The port of Damietta is one of the oldest ports in the country. During the famous French campaign, Egypt was found on some of the ruins dating back to the Pharaonic era. Today, the port of Damietta is of great importance to the Egyptian economy. The number of vessels dealing with this port has increased to two thousand and three hundred ships in the years two thousand and fourteen, and two thousand and fifteen.
تُعتبر مدينة دمياط عاصمة المحافظة المُسمّاة باسمها؛ حيث تقع في الشمال الأقصى لجمهورية مصر، وقبل أن يصبّ فرع نهر النيل المسمى بدمياط أيضاً في مياه البحر الأبيض المتوسط بخمسة عشركيلومتراً تقريباً. تبعد مدينة دمياط عن مدينة بور سعيد حوالي سبعين كيلومتراً، أمّا عن مدينة الإسكندرية فتبعد قرابة مئتي كيلومتر، هذا وتمتاز مدينة دمياط بأهميّتها على المستوى الزراعي؛ إذ تكثر فيها زراعة الجوافة، وأشجار النخيل والتي يزيد عددها على المليونين ونصف المليون شجرة تقريباً؛ حيث تُغطّي هذه الأشجار مساحاتٍ واسعة من الأراضي.
يُعتبر ميناء دمياط واحداً من أقدم الموانئ في البلاد، وقد عُثر خلال الحملة الفرنسيّة الشهيرة على مصر على بعض الآثار التي ترجع إلى الحقبة الفرعونية، وقد ازدهر هذا الميناء في فترة حُكم العلويين لمصر ابتداءً من حكم محمد علي. أمّا اليوم فلميناء دمياط أهميّةً عظيمةً بالنسبة للاقتصاد المصري؛ فقد زاد عدد السفن التي تعاملت مع هذا الميناء على الألفين وثلاثمئة سفينة خلال العامين ألفين وأربعة عشر، وألفين وخمسة عشر.
