Do You Remember "Asians in the Library"?

Let's examine an old meme and decide whether it goes into The Hall of Fame or The Hall of Shame.

Spoiler: It's not going into The Hall of Fame. Please keep in mind that since this is an old meme the individual featured in the meme's source material may not be the same kind of person today.

It's 2011 somewhere on the campus of UCLA in beautiful Southern California. A young college student named Alexandra Wallace sits in front of a webcam ready to make a video blog and post it to YouTube. Based on UCLA's academic standards and being in an environment of critical thinking surely the words that are about to be spoken will be profound.

Ooohhh....Oh, no! This political science student represents the future of what is going to create government policy? That's it. Game over. We're going to fall like the Roman Empire.

In case you can't guess what happened after Wallace's video wernt viral in the news there is a wiki entry on knowyourmeme.com.

Of course many in the Asian community were justifiably offended and Wallace bringing up the then current event Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami while making her ranting comments didn't help her.

There were response videos almost immediately from non-Asians mocking the ignorant American bimbo the public perceived Alexandra Wallace to be.

Probably the best parody video concerning "Asians in the Library" is an awesome song by Jimmy Wong. Sung from the perspective of one of the "Asians in the library".

Whatever happened to Alexandra Wallace since then? It's hard to guess where she is in 2021. I searched on-line a little bit. There are several individuals with the same name but clearly not the same person. Some believe that after leaving UCLA Alexandra Wallace changed her name, dyed her hair, and is trying to live a quiet life. Maybe she's on Hive and we'll never know it. Others think she went deep into the woods and became a hermit; occasionally being mistaken for Bigfoot. Don't be surprised if while hiking in Angeles National Forest you hear in the distance "OHHHHHH! CHING CHONG TING TONG LING LONG!…OHHHHHHHH!"
