Bringing the old RB25DET home

My last post at the start of 2020 showed my Stagea going in for work, turned out it was the big end bearing, rear main engine seal and piston #5 [it broke the whole chain lol].

I got the car back around March, instead of doing a rebuild we just went a new engine, sourced from Brisbane and transported up to Sydney, it was a whole lot cheaper than rebuild, plus i keep my old engine as spare parts [which has already come in handy a few times!]

I asked to keep my engine, and drove it home in the Stagea when i was picking up the car, this engine is about 330kg give or take different bits attached [720lbs?] and she was riding lowwww in the back :)

We were advised that we wouldn't be able to move it by ourselves, just 2 people, but we can do anything so we rigged up a kind of system that allowed us to crab walk it out of the car and across the garage to be tucked away.

Stacks of rims/tyres with bags of soil and blankets/seat covers to protect both the rims and the engine, working with what we had!

It did take a while, and it was hard work but it got done!
After the engine moved past a set of wheels and they were free, they were brought around to the front to continue the bridge, and then eventually the engine was walked through the garage and put away for later , pretty impressed with ourselves :)

Since having it in the garage ive had to change alternators [another story for another day] and it was very handy already having the part waiting for me already

Glad winter is finished and its coming into summertime, better weather to be outside working on the car, shes sat pretty still the past 2 years!! Looking forward to being able to drive more than 5km away from my house, now this lockdown is over :)
