Westmoreland Hemp and Ganja Farmers Association was formed in 2014. Rastafari Rootz Fest germinated out of that formation. The decrimalization of Ganja and acceptance officially by government of Rastafarian as a religion also pave the way for it..
Ras IyahV birth name Verald Vassell the face and the man behind Rastafari Rootzfest and first chairman of Westmoreland Hemp and Ganja Farmers Association WHAGFA) said the Fest is a celebration of rasta culture and exposure of the culture to the World. In a Jamaica Gleaner interview Ras Iyah V, told The Gleaner, The festival is not only speaking to ganja, but acts as a platform that we use to address the issues of injustice, gender discrimination, and the rights of indigenous people.
At the Fest there are lots of different speakers on various topics primarily about Rasta Culture and Ganja. Speakers such as professor Charles Nessen from Harvard law School, many local academics and local Rasta Leaders.
The first year HighTimes Magazine partner with the fest. Since that I have not seen any like HighTimes. However it roll on with local and other sponsors
This year the festival celebrate its 5th year in existence and IyahV is celebrating it by booking one of the most popular reggae cultural artist in Jamaica currently . His name is Crannixx. Some of his most popular works are Smile Jamaica, Here Comes Trouble, Capture Land just to name a few of his big hits. The festival also over the years have produce surprise.. I dont know if there are any surprise this year. However one big surprise some years ago was the first Cannabis Wedding in Jamaica at the Rootzfest.
Westmoreand Hemp and Ganja Farmers Association (WHAGFA) will have a booth at the festival for the three days. Farmers will be meeting and greeting at our booth you are all welcome to. We are going to try and make sure our booth fit in the 5 year celebration mode of the festival. We are working on some offering for your ReggaeSteemers...
