Hoy quiero hablarles acerca de lo beneficioso y positivo que es para los niños el tener una mascota en casa. Particularmente a mi hijo de 6 años, desde pequeño le ha encantado jugar con los gatos que viven en casa de la abuela y de la tía, y casi todo lo relaciona con ellos, le encanta ver películas y comiquitas de gatos, y siempre nos pregunta cuándo puede tener uno en casa, casualmente ayer estaba muy triste porque había llegado uno a la casa y al ratito se fue.

Today I want to talk to you about how beneficial and positive it is for children to have a pet at home. Particularly my 6 year old son, since he was little he has loved to play with the cats that live at grandma and aunt's house, and almost everything is related to them, he loves to watch movies and comics about cats, and he always asks us when he can have one at home, yesterday he was very sad because one had come to the house and soon he left.

Cuando se tiene una mascota en casa nos llegamos a encariñar mucho con ellos, y llegan a formar parte de la familia, se le tienen muchos cuidados y también se les extraña mucho cuando ya no están, por eso nos hemos limitado un poco en casa en decidirnos para adoptar una mascota, ya que hemos tenido varias experiencias anteriores y hay que tomar en cuenta que implica una gran responsabilidad para los miembros de la familia, ya que adquieren el compromiso de su cuidado.

When we have a pet at home we become very fond of them, and they become part of the family, we take a lot of care of them and we also miss them a lot when they are gone, that is why we have limited ourselves a little at home in deciding to adopt a pet, since we have had several previous experiences and we must take into account that it implies a great responsibility for the members of the family, since they acquire the commitment of taking care of them.

Sin embargo, si nos centramos en los niños veremos cómo es de gran ayuda para ellos desde varios aspectos.

Ayuda a fomentar los valores en los niños, entre ellos la responsabilidad, ya que ellos son los encargados de su alimentación y disfrutan mucho de compartir sus galletas por ejemplo, participan en su aseo, lo sacan a pasear, desarrollan hacia ellos un amor tan grande e incondicional y siempre se los quieren llevar a donde vayan, el respeto por sus animales y por todos con los cuales tengan contacto.

It helps to promote values in children, including responsibility, since they are in charge of their food and enjoy sharing their cookies for example, participate in their grooming, take them for a walk, develop such a great and unconditional love for them and always want to take them wherever they go, respect for their animals and for everyone with whom they have contact.

Ayudan a reducir el estrés en los niños, ya que se distraen, se ríen, comparten y se ha demostrado que muchos son terapéuticos para ellos, por ejemplo existe la gatoterapia que les proporciona mayor tranquilidad y evita que estén ansiosos.

They help reduce stress in children, as they are distracted, laugh, share and many have been shown to be therapeutic for them, for example there is cat therapy that provides them with greater peace of mind and prevents them from being anxious.

Sirven como apoyo y compañía cuando los niños tienen que pasar tiempo solo, ya que no tienen hermanos, primos o niños cercanos y sus padres están trabajando o están ocupados.

Mantiene unida a la familia ya que todos comparten con sus mascotas, en muchos casos son muy consentidos desde el papá hasta el niño, se reúnen en el patio para jugar, tomar fotos y permite que se sientan tranquilos y felices.

It keeps the family together since everyone shares with their pets, in many cases they are very spoiled from the father to the child, they gather in the yard to play, take pictures and allows them to feel calm and happy.

Según estudios realizados el convivir con mascotas desde pequeños los puede ayudar a reforzar el sistema inmunológico y ser menos propensos a alergias o asma.

Le ayuda a desarrollar sus habilidades motoras, ya que la mayoría del tiempo el juego con sus mascotas consiste en correr, saltar y eso les permite estar en constante movimiento.

Otro aspecto importante a considerar, es el mejor momento para que el niño tenga una mascota, y ello va a depender principalmente de la edad del niño, lo más recomendable es cuando el niño tenga un mayor conocimiento de que la mascota es un ser vivo que amerita muchos cuidados y en los que él debe participar. En base a esto, especialistas recomiendan que un buen momento es a partir de los 5 o 6 años de edad, donde ellos pueden ayudar a los padres en ciertos cuidados y bajo su supervisión. Posteriormente como a los 10 años, pueden ir adquiriendo mayor responsabilidad como el aseo y sacarlos a pasear fomentando así el compromiso y que el niño sea más independiente.

Como vemos son muchos los beneficios de tener una mascota en casa, lo que si tenemos que tener en cuenta es que no son los juguetes de los niños y que no se puede pensar en la opción de botarlos a la calle por cualquier razón, hay que cuidarlos y respetarlos por lo que hay que tomar la decisión de adoptarlos muy en serio y no a la ligera, se debe hacer cuando se considere el momento correcto, y entre todos elegir la mascota adecuada para una mejor convivencia familiar.

As we see there are many benefits of having a pet at home, what we have to keep in mind is that they are not children's toys and you can not think of the option of throwing them out for any reason, you have to take care of them and respect them so you have to take the decision to adopt them very seriously and not lightly, it should be done when it is considered the right time, and between all choose the right pet for a better family life.
