Me llamo Jose, vivo en Tinaquillo, una ciudad que se debate entre ser pueblo o ciudad. Tinaquillo está ubicado en el Estado Cojedes, en los Llanos Occidentales de Venezuela, su población es de un poco más de 97mil personas y como atributos posee bonitos paisajes naturales como sus pampas, praderas de campo abierto, sus ríos y montañas.
My name is Jose, I live in Tinaquillo, a city that is torn between being a town or a city. Tinaquillo is located in the State of Cojedes, in the Western Plains of Venezuela, its population is a little more than 97,000 people and as attributes it has beautiful natural landscapes such as its pampas, open field prairies, rivers and mountains.
Nací, me crié y aún vivo en Tinaquillo siendo mi único lugar de residencia, a excepción de los años que viví en Maracay, capital del Estado Aragua, en el centro del País. Desde pequeño siempre me he sentido a gusto caminando por las calles de mi pueblo, visitando su centro comercial o sus plazas y lugares de esparcimiento; en pocas palabras siempre he sentido a este pueblo como mi genuino hogar.
I was born, raised and still live in Tinaquillo being my only place of residence, except for the years I lived in Maracay, capital of Aragua State, in the center of the country. Since I was a child I have always felt at ease walking through the streets of my town, visiting its commercial center or its squares and recreational places; in a few words I have always felt this town as my genuine home.
A pesar de ello nunca he podido quitar de mi mente esa sensación de inquietud que me aborda cuando comprendo que en Tinaquillo hay muchas carencias; entiendo que en cada ciudad, país o lugar del mundo, sin importar el nivel de desarrollo que este lugar tenga, presentará carencias de algún tipo, sin embargo y según mi parecer las carencias en Tinaquillo son muchas y su efecto es sumamente negativo para los Tinaquilleros.
Despite this I have never been able to remove from my mind that feeling of uneasiness that approaches me when I understand that in Tinaquillo there are many shortages; I understand that in every city, country or place in the world, regardless of the level of development that this place has, there will be shortages of some kind, however and in my opinion the shortages in Tinaquillo are many and its effect is extremely negative for Tinaquilleros.
Entre las primeras y más importantes a mi parecer es la falta de espacios que promuevan la cultura, y de ese modo la educación y fomentación de valores para los locales. En nuestro pueblo es nula la existencia de lugares que se dediquen a promover la cultura y la enseñanza cultural, cosas que son vitales para el desarrollo adecuado de una sociedad como se ha demostrado a lo largo de los años.
Among the first and most important in my opinion is the lack of spaces that promote culture, and thus the education and promotion of values for the locals. In our town there are no places dedicated to promote culture and cultural education, things that are vital for the proper development of a society as has been demonstrated over the years.
La falta de espacios culturales es tal que a los ciudadanos de Tinaquillo nos ha tocado recurrir a otros espacios de entretenimiento y ocio en sustitución de estos espacios. Con esto no solo me refiero a la nula existencia de museos, galerías, teatros, cines; lo más grave para mi es la falta de escuelas de enseñanza cultural, escuelas de danza y música por ejemplo.
The lack of cultural spaces is such that the citizens of Tinaquillo have had to resort to other spaces for entertainment and leisure to replace these spaces. By this I am not only referring to the non-existence of museums, galleries, theaters, cinemas; the most serious thing for me is the lack of cultural education schools, dance and music schools for example.
Con motivo de esto es común que los ciudadanos de Tinaquillo viajen a Valencia, una de las ciudades más importantes del país en muchos sentidos, van allí en busca de eventos de entretenimiento pero también de la movida cultural de Valencia, en mi opinión esto lo que ocasiona es un deterioro en la promulgación de nuestra propia cultura y ocasiona una adopción progresiva de una cultura vecina (transculturización) que aunque es propia de nuestro país no representa los valores socioculturales del folklore y cultura de nuestra región.
Because of this it is common that the citizens of Tinaquillo travel to Valencia, one of the most important cities in the country in many ways, they go there in search of entertainment events but also of the cultural movement of Valencia, in my opinion this causes a deterioration in the promulgation of our own culture and causes a progressive adoption of a neighboring culture (transculturation) that although it is typical of our country does not represent the socio-cultural values of the folklore and culture of our region.
Aunque en Tinaquillo existen ciudadanos ejemplares que salen al rescate de nuestras tradiciones culturales y que buscan enseñar a los más jóvenes nuestra cultura y folklore con la implementación de la enseñanza improvisada, pero no por ello menos significativa e impactante, eso no basta. Hace falta que las autoridades y entes pertinentes pongan el empeño real y necesario que este problema amerita.
Although in Tinaquillo there are exemplary citizens who come to the rescue of our cultural traditions and seek to teach the youngest our culture and folklore with the implementation of improvised teaching, but no less significant and impacting, that is not enough. It is necessary that the authorities and pertinent entities put the real and necessary effort that this problem deserves.
La falta de cultura para un pueblo es sinónimo de un deterioro de este como sociedad ya que la cultura, como dije antes, es una herramienta importantísima para fortalecer la educación, valores y saberes de un pueblo. Por todo esto es necesario que los ciudadanos de Tinaquillo exijan seriedad y responsabilidad a sus autoridades para que se aboquen a resolver este problema, ya que son estas autoridades las que disponen de los medios necesarios para las soluciones reales y efectivas de este problema.
The lack of culture for a people is synonymous of its deterioration as a society since culture, as I said before, is a very important tool to strengthen the education, values and knowledge of a people. For all this it is necessary that the citizens of Tinaquillo demand seriousness and responsibility to their authorities to address this problem, since these authorities are the ones who have the necessary means for real and effective solutions to this problem.
El ciudadano de a pie también tiene un rol importante en toda esta situación, es nuestro deber promulgar y transmitir a las generaciones más jóvenes todas las tradiciones y manifestaciones culturales y folklóricas que una vez nos fueron transmitidas. Además de eso debemos tener un rol protagónico a la hora de organizar eventos culturales que busquen resaltar nuestros valores, cultura y tradiciones para fomentar el sentido de pertenencia que debemos tener como Tinaquilleros, y de esa forma no terminar por convertirnos en un pueblo sin cultura, y a la larga, sin trascendencia.
The ordinary citizen also has an important role in this whole situation, it is our duty to promulgate and transmit to the younger generations all the traditions and cultural and folkloric manifestations that were once transmitted to us. In addition to that we must have a leading role in organizing cultural events that seek to highlight our values, culture and traditions to promote the sense of belonging that we must have as Tinaquilleros, and thus not end up becoming a people without culture, and ultimately, without transcendence.
