Hola queridos lectores,

Hello dear readers,

Today I want to dedicate a special space on the platform to animal shelters. What are these places?

Animal shelters are a temporary but
Sometimes permanent place for animals, mostly dogs and cats, where animals in street conditions are sheltered in order to take care of them, give them veterinary assistance, control their uncontrolled reproduction through sterilization while they get a permanent home with a family that gives them love, food, security and all the needs that these animals have through adoption.

Before Shelters
Animal shelters are something relatively new, since many years ago many cities opted for the killing of stray animals or the well-known kennels which were in charge of taking animals on the street but without the premise of providing them a home or a better lifestyle, these activities and places lack awareness of animal rights and if the main purpose was to eliminate the dangers that supposedly these animals represented to society and the environment.

How animal shelters were born
One of the main reasons why animal shelters were born is with the idea of making people aware of the rights that living beings have, with the premise that all domestic animals, be they dogs or cats, are the responsibility of human beings, so we should not neglect those who live near our area and have no owner or no one to take care of them.

The benefits of animal shelters
Animal shelters play an important role in society, their main mission being to give a temporary home to homeless animals, providing them with a better quality of life, while they are assigned a permanent home with responsible and animal-loving people. In addition to their main mission, the shelters try as much as possible to provide veterinary services at a lower cost, provide support in the recovery of stray animals, offer sterilization campaigns in conjunction with other organizations and decrease the reproduction rate of homeless animals.

Thanks to animal shelters, the slaughter of dogs and cats has decreased considerably, all this thanks to the awareness and teamwork of many governmental and non-profit associations that aim to care for, feed and protect animals in street conditions, thus giving them a new opportunity.

How can we do our bit?
Speaking specifically of animal shelters in Venezuela, many of these are maintained thanks to the support of other public and private institutions, also to the different activities they carry out to raise money, such as the sale of cookies, clothes and other accessories made by themselves, but this is not enough to keep all the animals.
One way to support or collaborate with these places is mainly by adopting and not buying animals, you can also give donations of any kind, in money, food for animals, medicines and any other resource that we do not use and can be useful, some shelters also give you the opportunity to sponsor an animal, especially if you can not adopt it. You can even volunteer to support the activities that take place within the shelter.

The Nevado Mission
It is a mission that was born in 2013 in Venezuela with the primary objective of promoting the recognition of animal rights and raise awareness among the population about the duty that humans have towards animals.
This mission is a solidarity option for the domestic economy of animal protectors, offering vaccination services, deworming, veterinary care days, sterilizations, among others. To date there are 26 veterinary centers distributed in the different states of the country. Thanks to this mission, many legal actions have been taken against animal abuse to ensure compliance with regulations related to the treatment of animals.

Shelters in the midst of the crisis in Venezuela
Despite the crisis that our country is currently going through, those of us who are animal lovers can observe how the different shelters that have been created during all these years, have made use of different activities to get ahead and keep these places afloat, through donations from different private companies, some institutions and mainly through all the publicity that followers on social networks like Instagram and facebook, which when they can not adopt the animals choose to donate food, veterinary supplies among other things, depending on the information provided by these shelters through the different platforms.

Influence of social networks in the adoption of pets in Venezuela
The different social networks, mainly Instagram and Facebook, play an important role in the great work of pet adoptions, as well as they have also served to reunite lost animals with their owners. I declare myself a pet lover and for this reason I follow in social networks an infinity of shelters and organizations related to animal protection, just like me, there are millions of people and I can say from my point of view that through these platforms you can be informed of all the activities related to the different shelters and the different ways in which we can contribute our bit to improve the situation of animals that are in a situation of abandonment, In the same way you can see how through social networks the problem of animal abandonment is made visible, making people aware of the responsibility that comes with owning a dog or cat.

Despite the crisis that our country is going through, animal shelters have played an important role in the rescue and care of animals that are on the street, it is a great work that requires not only the support of the people who collaborate directly with them, but also of everyone. Little by little we are strengthening the love and respect we should have for animals, regardless of their condition, every day more laws are created against animal abuse, in Venezuela there is still a long way to go on this issue, but the important thing is that we are already moving towards a future of respect, consideration, protection and love for animals.
