Some Things Just Can't Be Avoided Miss Molly

Every 28 Days ..

Molly has to get a shot of her life sustaining Percorten-V. Molly has Addison's Disease, making the injection a necessary event in order for her to survive. Percorten-V is a corticosteroid that she is prescribed to treat the Addison's disease, because her adrenal glands do not produce enough steroids. Adrenal glands produce certain hormones, including adrenaline, aldosterone and cortisol, which in part help to regulate metabolism, the immune system, blood pressure, Molly's response to stress and the list goes on. A complicated mess.

Since her tiny body can not produce it's own steroid, we have to supply her with it via an injection.

Molly was diagnosed with Addison's Disease.. On October 1st, 2015. It will be 6 years since that diagnoses, come this October. It was a rough time leading up to and post diagnosis. We were lucky that a specialist in Addison's was working at the emergency center the day we brought her (practically lifeless self) there, otherwise she surely would have died. Addisonian dogs are often misdiagnosed after responding to steroids (given by emergency veterinarians) and sent home unknowingly .. death quickly finds them.

Flash to present day .. and she is doing fantastic, now that we have learned what we can about the disease, what stresses her and how to react with increases to her daily dose of Prednisolone .. Another medication she has to take in order to sustain her life.

We continue to change how we both treat and monitor her disease, as she changes, in order to give Molly the best chance at a comfortable and enjoyable life.

What Is Addison's Disease? ..

Addison's disease, also called adrenal insufficiency, is an uncommon disorder that occurs when your body doesn't produce enough of certain hormones. In Addison's disease, your adrenal glands, located just above your kidneys, produce too little cortisol and, often, too little aldosterone.

Addison's disease occurs in all age groups and both sexes, and can be life-threatening. Treatment involves taking hormones to replace those that are missing.

A Trip To The Vet Today ..

Molly, Mommy and I took a trip to the vet today. She had another one of those seizure like episodes a few days ago, and we were able to catch it all on video. I don't want to post the video, because it may be heartbreaking to some people. She is VERY vocal when these episodes occur, and she sounds like she is in extreme pain (Which is not the case). The doctor recommended we bring her in again for another exam and more blood work. So Now we are waiting on that. Hopefully in the next few days we will get some useful information.

What treat did I have for her when she came home? .. A shot! An injection of her Percorten-V!! Yippee!!! She was SO excited about that. Not only did she endure the process of blood being drawn at the vet, the stress of being at the vet, and just not feeling herself, she also has to get stuck by me.

Sorry Miss Molly. Some Things Just Can't Be Avoided...

She is a good girl and waits patiently for Daddy to give her the injection.. She is very used to it by now, being that she also has extremely bad allergies that require another injection. I give her that injection every 10 days. She's a little pro at getting them.

Are you ready Molly? ..

"Not Really Daddy. But if you must...

IMG_0636.JPG

I'll spare you the actual injecting. No one wants to see that and risk getting queasy in the stomach. lol

All Done!!! All that is left to do is shake it off and go get a piece of cheese for her efforts and cooperation

IMG_0637.JPG

Next .. I cap the needle and place it into an old drink bottle for safe disposal. As you can see, this bottle is just about filled. It gives you a good idea of how often she gets shots.. lol. She's such a good sport about it and I am getting pretty good at giving them.

The Reward ..

Later that night, after dinner and poops, Molly got what she really wanted.. some one on one time with her good old dad. Some Rubbin's was in order. This was a reward we both enjoyed! ..

“Better to forget, better to let go of the bitterness. I say bitterness is only good in medicine, or if you fry bitter gourd with egg, then it's dlicious. I told Lan-Lan many times, we have only one life, it's important to kua kwee, to look spaciously. Not keep the eyes so narrowed down to the small dispairs.
Those people who say forgive and forget, I say they not right. Not so simple. I say, find right medicine. Bitterness must be just right for problem. Then swallow it, think of good things can do when no longer sick.”

About Me ~ The Artist

My art work incorporates a wide variety of subject matter, including landscape, seascape, cityscape, and still life images. My works are the product of a continuing process of exploration through which I seek to portray personal and visionary interpretations of my surroundings. My paintings are impressions of places and events from everyday life, an interpretation of my imagination, and personal responses to what I see and feel on a daily basis. More recently I have invested generous amounts of time into my landscape painting. I am surrounded by natural and man made beauty, which inherently presents itself in the tri-state area, and almost demands that I paint it.

Not everything is art. Art is not everything, but it comes close. Art is everywhere and all the time. Art makes you experience the beauty of the world, the people in it, and the places we call home. Art itself is so influential that it can tell stories, show feelings, and express passion or fury. Art exists in addition to language; expression of sensations and thoughts, revealing a way of thinking too subtle and delicate for words.

For me art requires love, honesty and perseverance. In return, it reveals some personal, non-analyzable, and creative untamed passion. For the public, art with its magnificent beauty, improves mood and health and builds better human beings and communities. It engages the intellect, softens the heart, strengthens the soul and frees the spirit.
