When I got Ghost as a gift, I immediately noticed that something in his belly was not right; he had a little pink ball that I had not seen in any other cat or puppy. Pero bueno, está muy bien aprender cosas nuevas.

Por supuesto que no me quedé con la información que leí en Google y cuando lleve a Ghost al veterinario para su primera vacuna, le pregunté a la veterinaria sobre la procedencia y el motivo de esa hernia. La veterinaria me explicó que las hernias se producen cuando la madre corta el cordón umbilical del gatico de manera muy brusca, ocasionando que este no cicatrice bien y luego, de lugar a una bolsita que se llena de grasa abdominal y en casos extremos, de partes del intestino, que es lo que conocemos como la Hernia umbilical.

De acuerdo a lo que me explicó la veterinaria, el saco herniario, que es la bolsita que podemos ver y tocar en el vientre del gatico, puede cerrarse solo y el contenido de la hernia puede absorberse sin ningún problema antes de los 5 meses de vida del gatico, si esto no pasa, la hernia continua creciendo en la medida de que el gatico crece, lo que puede ser peligroso porque en algún momento, el saco herniario puede sufrir una alteración y si hay una parte del intestino dentro de él, puede estrangularse, lo que evitaría el flujo de sangre en la zona y la muerte del gatico. Lamentablemente, a Ghost no se le cerró el saco herniario antes de los 5 meses.

Es algo que realmente me pone nerviosa, por más que me digan que es una operación sencilla, temo que pueda pasarle algo. Fuera de eso, mientras reunimos el dinero para la operación, la veterinaria me explicó que debo hacerle una pequeña terapia para evitar que el disco herniario se adhiera a la pared abdominal, lo que haría que la cirugía fuese más invasiva.

It's something that really makes me nervous, even though they tell me it's a simple operation, I'm afraid that something could happen to him. Other than that, while we are raising the money for the operation, the vet explained to me that I have to give him a little therapy to prevent the herniated disc from sticking to the abdominal wall, which would make the surgery more invasive.
Terapia para evitar adherencias / Adhesion prevention therapy
La finalidad de esta terapia es evitar que el disco herniario se adhiera a la pared abdominal. En cualquier momento que tengo a Ghost en mis brazos, se la aplico, pero prefiero hacerla cuando está dormido, para que no le cause molestias.

Coloco suavemente los dedos sobre la hernia umbilical y hago una ligera presión, con suficiente firmeza para introducir el contenido herniario al interior del abdomen. Repito unas 3 veces.
