The other day @cmplxty released this article asking for design assistance. He created the Rant, Complain, Talk community or, as I like to call it, comedy, and the home page needs personality.
I reached out to him yesterday to check the status and found out it's still open—no entries. 50 Hive up for grabs and no competition? Shooooot, I'm in! Besides, he already spells his handle without any vowels, you know what they say about those kind.
He specifically said no pink, it's a good thing I asked. My belt, phone, backpack—it's all pink. First I worked on the profile page and then the profile picture or avatar or whatever it's called. I'll leave you with a variety of designs, choose any are none of them—no worries.

I liked the idea of blending black & blue because it's a Rant channel—feelings can bruise easily if you're one of those who brings feelings with you to the internet. I textured it but each time I brushed, the more it disappeared. So I designed a second one using less brush and added some salt & pepper looking texture.
It kinda reminded me of static. That's how this next one found it's way here.
I'm not sure which I like best. The static one's pretty cool, we'll come back to it. I was thinking about cutting images to paste along the edges to brighten it up. Headlines? Nah... Animals? Street signs?? 🤔
There's a lot more street signs on the road than I was aware of! My one and only issue (two at the most) is I can't see colors well. They call it 'shade blind,' a relative of color blind—automatic military disqualification. There's three cone cell's in your eye and someone like me most likely inherited a development problem between one or more of those cone cell's. What happens is, similar colors blend so I can't differentiate between something like red and orange the same way you would. Same for all like colors; blue/green, brown/black, yellow/gold etc.
I'm telling you this because I lean on Pura's eyes for these things but she's not here today. So if something clashes, you know why. I cut out the following road signs and used them to border the first three.

I still like the static one—just needs movement. I've seen profile pages with moving images, there must be a way to attach a link in the photo line or something—not sure. I bet cmplxty knows!
I sent it back through Sketchbook and brushed multiple layers, snapping progress shots until I had a full collection. I sent them through iMovie and cranked up the speed.
And now the other part, the avatar part. I couldn't get the idea of a cursing emoji out of my head. Rant, Complain, Talk.... cursing emoji. I cut out one of those strips and found four different copyright free faces to stick it to. I filtered each of them at Photoshop, too, so I could hook you up with a variety pack to choose from.
