Counter Improvements

Hi fellow Ranters,

The other day we got our counters swapped out!

Counter Improvements

It's remarkable what something like a new countertop will do to improve an area like a kitchen. We've been trying to take some time to improve things around the house, paint stuff, clean up things and make some general improvements so that we can get top dollar for our place when we go to sell it. It's not an easy or fast process when you mix in everything else in life like work and all that but we are progressing.

We got a bit of time to enjoy the counters, which may or may not be a bad thing lol. The counters were really brutal from a historical perspective. The stuff that was put in was typical contractor stuff, very cheap and easy to install. I don't necessarily blame them but after a while, these composite counters break down. They were wood based with laminate on top and the laminate was starting to separate from the wood and that was starting to look terrible. Thankfully we have been saving some money and decided to do it while we can. There were a few spaces that the counters were burned, soaked with stuff and just generally junk. The backsplash was also falling apart around the kitchen sink so that was definitely a problem we had to fix.

It was pretty crazy how quickly the guys came in, ripped out the old counters and installed the brand new one! Lol. It was interesting to see the counters pulled apart and the different things that happened with them. There were some gaps there that weren't really apparent until it was taken off. The back corner there I was shocked to see that there wasn't cabinet all the way to the wall. I think they measured wrong and just gave us shorter cabinets than we needed lol. Nothing we can do about that now!

The awesome quartz counter after it was installed! The kitchen sink is a lot bigger than the one we had before so that was nice. A nice deep sink, more room for dishes to pile up?! Lol. We went with white for the counters and the backsplash since we wanted to make sure that the counter was bright and welcoming. Now we have to spend some time painting the walls!

The counter guy we had ended up being amazing! The counters were really challenging with all the different cuts and stuff.

We made some great improvements with the countertops that will certainly increase resale value. It cost a bit of money but I know we can make that up in the end for the selling price. The market we live in has been very good for selling, particularly where we are. Lots of people come in and out of the area so that works in our favor for sure! Next up is the floors (again lol) in the bathroom. Gotta put in more reliable, life-proof floors to withstand daily living.
