The three months lockdown had changed many things at my favourite shopping mall called Amarin Plaza. Many vendors had given up their shops and moved out. The mall had to rearrange their rental space by grouping all remaining shops on area around the escalators of the second and third floors. The rest of the shops has been transformed into big halls for special functions and rented out for private parties or musical shows. But the slow economy meant that the management had offered cheap rental space to a nearby hospital as a center for COVID injections! So, on some days, there would be a few hundred people a waiting for their injection. There are signs telling people where to wait and queue up for the jabs.
I have been coming to this place for several years as I was attracted to the informal and relaxing atmosphere of this shopping mall. Most of the vendors had been there for almost twenty years. So, they all knew each other and they helped each other in various ways. Sometimes a vendor had a new baby so her neughbours would be looking after her shop and selling the souvenirs for the new mother. Though this is a four star shopping mall, the atmosphere among the small shops was very friendly and easy going. All the old vendors knew me very well and we sometimes exchanges jokes and gossips about corrupted politicians.
Since the pandemic, most the the old vendors had gone. Suddenly, I only have five vendors left to keep me company at the Amarin Plaza. After the three months’ lockdown, I visited this shopping mall to observe and record recent changes. The whole place became very quiet and very few customers could be seen at my favourite cafe, the Camelot. The staff at the cafe made the smoothest coffee and the cheapest chocolate cakes.
I often browse the camping gears shop on the second floor as their collections of flash lights and pitcher knives were often very interesting. But I only buy stuff at this shop during the annual sale promotion. It’s quite surprising that this expensive shop could still sell their expensive merchandise. I saw some regular customers in this shop; they were all professional people who liked to go camping and shooting ranges.
The two shops to spend a lot of time browsing are the Tibetan art shop and ceramic shops in the third floor. These shops had been moved to locate around the hallway by the escalators. The two vendors have been at this mall more than ten years. In the old days, they both had lots of regular expat customers and lots of visiting tourists. I just hoped that tourism could be back on track before the end of the year. Though I have been noticing some tourists walking in other shopping malls, they were too few to make a difference to the trading vibes. Because of the slow economic situation, customers could buy some rare and antique pieces at amazingly low prices. Most merchandise has been on big reduction in prices after the lockdown.
The overall vibes of Amarin Plaza has changed after the management decided to get involved with official jabbing projects to make money from renting available space. The smell of the mall has also changed as I was disturbed by strange chemical and disinfectant smell during the injection days. The accumulation of lots of fearful people in the waiting areas and jabbing hall would certainty affect the vibes of the mall.
So, I would not spend much time at this mall any longer; my invisible sonar warned me about some disturbing or lingering energy. I could no longer spend time at the cafe as usual. I went their to look for some pocket knife and safety gadgets. During last month, I had been going around telling several vendors about the danger of the jabs and to give them sources of information on the antidotes for vaxx adverse effects. Three people had the common sense and distrust for official campaign so they never wanted to get involved with the injection process. They also knew about the unreported sufferings by vaxxed people. So, I was quite relieved that they would continue their livelihood for many more years without any abrupt changes to their well-being.
เมื่อเดือนก่อนเราพึ่งกลับไปเดินเล่นที่อัมรินทร์พลาซ่า พอเขาเลิกการล็อกดาวน์ เราก็ออกไปสำรวจความเปลี่ยนแปลงที่นั่นทันที ร้านขายของโดนปิดไปหลายเดือน เราก็อยากไปดูว่าร้านเก่าแก่ที่เราเคยรู้จักยังคงเปิดกิจการเหมือนเดิมหรือเปล่า ที่นั่นมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงหลายอย่างมากจนเราใจหาย ร้านขายของปิดไปมากกว่าสิบร้าน ตอนนี้มีร้านที่เรารู้จักคุ้นเคยอยู่เพียงห้าร้านเท่านั้น และมีการดัดแปลงสถานที่ให้มีห้องโถงใหญ่สำหรับเป็นที่ฉีดยาให้คนโดยเจ้าหน้าที่ของโรงพยาบาลตำรวจ และมีที่นั่งคอย ที่เข้าคิวรอการฉีดยาหลายจุด. วันไหนถ้าไปเจอการฉีดยา ที่จอดรถยนต์จะเต็ม ทำให้หาที่จอดรถยาก และเวลาเดินเข้าไปเราแทบจะลมจับ เพราะมีกลิ่นสารเคมีและ กลิ่นยาเหมือนตามโรงพยาบาล แต่ว่ากลิ่นฉุนกว่าสามเท่าทีเดียว
เราไปเดินตามหาร้านขายของ เพื่อสำรวจว่ามีคนขายที่เรารู้จักเหลืออยู่กี่คน เราไปดูร้านกาแฟโปรดของเราด้วย เขาก็ได้เปิดขายหลังล็อกดาวน์ มีคนนั่งอยู่เพียงโต๊ะเดียว เราก็ไปดูร้านขายไฟฉาย มีดพับและเครื่องมือเที่ยวป่าที่ชั้นล่าง เราชอบดูของที่ร้านนี้มาก แต่ราคาแพงเกินไป ต้องรอให้มีลดราคามากๆก่อน แล้วค่อยไปดูใหม่ เราขอบไปคุยกับคนขายของที่ร้านทิเบตมาก มีของน่าสนใจหลายอย่าง แต่ก่อนร้านนี้มีลูกค้าชาวต่างชาติหลายคน ถ้ามีนักท่องเที่ยวกลับมามากขึ้น การค้าขายน่าจะดีกว่านี้ นอกจากนี้เราก็ไปดูร้านขายหินและเครื่องประดับของชาวปากีสถาน สมัยก่อนมีร้านขายหินสวยๆห้าร้าน ตอนนี้เหลือร้านเดียว ของทุกอย่างขายแบบแทบไม่มีกำไร
ถ้าเรามีเงินเย็นมากมาย เราก็คงช่วยซื้อของมาเก็บไว้ดูเล่นได้บ้าง ตอนนี้งานการหดหายไปแล้วกับการล็อกดาวน์ โชคดีที่มีการเขียนบล็อกเพื่อหาเงินคริปโตมาไว้ใช้ได้ในยามฉุกเฉิน แต่ตอนนี้เราก็ยุ่งมาก ต้องพยายามจัดบ้านให้เรียบร้อยภายในเวลาจำกัด เราจึงไม่มีเวลามาเขียนโพสต์ในเดือนนี้เท่าไร แต่เราก็คงพยายามติดตามผลงานของเพื่อนๆอย่างเสอมต้นเสมอปลาย เราก็หวังว่าทุกอย่างจะดีขึ้นในปีหน้า แต่เราคิดว่า ปลายปีนี้คงมีเรื่องวุ่นวายเกิดขึ้นในบ้านมือง เราก็ขอให้มีการคิดวางแผนเพื่อไว้ด้วย
