Mount Baker, WA - Pt.2

I wasn't intending on doing a second Mount Baker Post, but it is a really striking mountain and there are some interesting facts that I wish I would have shared on yesterday's post.
Mount Baker is located in the Cascade Range of Washington State, just 23km south of the Canada/USA border. It stands at a whopping 3286m high (10,780ft).

But, Mount Baker is also an active volcano! Although it hasn't erupted for some 6,700 years, there has been other hazardous activity recorded in the area. For example, hydro-thermal explosions and collapses in the 1840's and 1880's, and an increase in fumarolic activity (release of volcanic gasses and steam) in 1975.

Even though it is an active volcano there is no need to fear an untimely eruption. Mount Baker's activity is continuously monitored by multiple organizations and any potential threat of eruption would usually give days, weeks, or even months, of warning signs.

In the meantime, we can just revel in it's raw and wild beauty.
