Selection of photos of majestic seagulls on the island of Formentera, Spain

As I have told you before, seagulls have always been a source of inspiration for me. I don't remember if I have already said it, probably yes, but the book "Juan Salvador Gaviota" was the cause of my admiration for these birds.

In the book, its author Richard Bach shares a selection of photos of these birds, and as you go through the book, you can contemplate their beauty. The photos in the version of the novel that I had were in black and white, because it was a very old book that my mother gave me when I was little, and she had already read that book.

Selección de fotos de gaviotas majestuosas en la isla de Formentera, España

Como en alguna otra oportunidad les he comentado, las gaviotas siempre han sido para mi, fuente de inspiración. No recuerdo si ya lo he dicho, probablemente sí, pero el libro “Juan Salvador Gaviota” fue el causante de mi admiración por estas aves-

En la obra, su autor Richard Bach comparte una selección de fotos de estas aves, y a medida que avanza uno en el libro, puede contemplar la belleza de las mismas. Las fotos de la versión de la novela que yo tenía, estaban en blanco y negro, pues era un libro muy viejo que me dio mi madre cuando yo era pequeña, y ella ya había leído ese libro.

Since that story, I also began to focus my attention on the seagulls, but although it was always like that, it wasn't until I was an adult traveler that I really started to stop and watch them.

Today there is something else that pleases me about seagulls, and although absolutely obvious, it had not entered into my motives. It is that they are an indicator that there is land in sight for sailors, as well as telling us that there is sea in sight for those of us in the urban jungles.

Desde aquella historia, yo también empecé a enfocar mi atención en las gaviotas, pero aunque siempre fue así, no fue sino cuando adulta viajera que realmente empecé a detenerme a observarlas.

Hoy hay algo más que me agrada de las gaviotas, y aunque absolutamente obvio, no había entrado entre mis motivos. Se trata de que son un indicador de que hay tierra a la vista para los navegantes, al tiempo que nos dicen que hay mar a la vista para los que estamos en las junglas urbanas.

The seagulls I saw in Formentera just a few days ago, were really very happy birds, because they flew with a peace that I have not seen in other seagulls, which I usually contemplate next to smaller or larger cities.

They were kind of dominating the place, and although if you got too close, of course they would retreat, you could tell that this was their habitat and that we humans were visitors to their land.

The seagulls not only gave life to those white sands and crystalline waters, but they were the masters of the house, each one had its own little place.

You can see several of them being at ease in that idyllic landscape that seemed more like a hallucination than reality.

Las gaviotas que vi en Formentera hace tan solo unos días atrás, eran unas aves realmente muy felices, pues volaban con una paz que no he visto en otras gaviotas, a las que suelo contemplar al lado de ciudades más pequeñas o más grandes.

Estas estaban como dominando el lugar, y aunque si te acercabas demasiado, claro que se retiraban, se notaba que aquel era su hábitat y que nosotros los humanos, éramos visitantes en sus tierras.

Las gaviotas no solamente le daban vida a aquellas arenas blancas y aguas cristalinas, sino que eran las dueñas de casa que tenía cada una, su lugarcito.

Pueden ver a varias estando a sus anchas en aquel paisaje idílico que parecía más una alucinación que la realidad.

However, there was one seagull that won the prize for the best timing of my day. I was leaving my own momentary spot on the sand, when I saw a seagull gliding towards me from afar.

I picked up my phone and went in to take one shot after another as best I could, as the sun was dazzling me too much.

They are not totally casual photos, because I followed the seagull, but I could not see the angle or the distance well, on the one hand because of the sunlight and on the other hand, because of the speed of the bird's flight.

Anyway, you can see the good pictures that were taken.

Sin embargo, hubo una gaviota que fue la que se ganó el premio a la más oportuna de mi día. Y es que me estaba yendo de mi propio lugarcito momentáneo en la arena, cuando vi que se acercaba planeando una gaviota desde lejos.

Levanté el móvil y entré a hacer una captura tras otra como pude, pues el sol me encandilaba demasiado.

No son fotos casuales totalmente, porque seguí a la gaviota, pero no pude ver bien el ángulo ni la distancia., por un lado por la luz del sol y por otro, por la velocidad de vuelo del ave.

Igualmente, podrán ver las buenas fotos que quedaron.
