Guerilla photography 2:Derelict factory

Following on from a previous post these images are from a cement factory closed in 1930.Since then time, man and nature have taken their toll and the factory is now forbidden to enter due to it's dangerous condition, near to collapse. It is surrounded by high fences, and high fines, threat of trespass action, and security patrols keep people out.

Except for determined photographers hoping for some beautiful images and prepared to take risks for them. The factory is forbidden to enter for a reason. It is a dangerous mix of falling and fallen masonry and metal. Sharp metal, glass, debris and deep holes are all around.

We don't recommend you do what we do but we wanted to create a historic photo legacy of this amazing place before it collapses and it's architecture and ghosts from a bygone era disappear forever.

This site has really had an effect on me.It speaks of the transience of man and the power of nature. It represents a different era when men worked hard and long in dangerous and dirty conditions.
It reveals the beauty of the art and architecture of man hidden beneath the dereliction.

Most factories from this era have long since been demolished but this one survives because of it's historical importance for the country-it was one of the first and the biggest cement factories in New Zealand. Ironically because it is made of cement it cannot survive the elements after so long abandoned.

I keep seeing more details every time I look at these images-from the debris, to the graffiti, to the decaying architecture. I plan to mount an exhibition of some of the best images due to the amount of interest they have generated from many forums and many different viewers. Exhibits are expensive to create but I think this one will be worth it.It will leave a lasting legacy of this factory and the people who lived and died there.
