This week has not started well. In the beginning, we were saddened to hear that one of the most famous drummers of our time, Charlie Watts of the Rolling Stones, had passed away. Glory to him and may the earth is light to him.
Although in eternity, his drumming will always be with us.
But we have to move on.
Charlie Watts - Jumpin' Jack Flash
Charlie Watts was the most polite and friendly and somewhat reserved Stones compared to the others. Whatever genres the Rolling Stones strayed into, his drumming always provided the engine and the rhythm to all the variations. I chose this song in memory of him. R.I.P. Charlie.
In this rare recording, the drummer is the main focus.
OSEES - The Dream
Osees from San Francisco started in 1997 and are known for their high-energy live shows. They still mix different styles, from garage and psychedelic rock to punk and post-punk. I would say they haven't learned anything new :)
This song is from their early days, I've heard it many times, it's the latest, freshest live recording from March this year but it seems to me they play it faster every time. Of course, I recommend it.
Fed Horses - Argentina
New single by Fed Horses, Slovenia, an indie rock band. I can say that over the years they have developed a distinctive style, let's say quality blend between Florence and The Machine and The Cure and they sound very good.
Alien Boy - Something Better
This band from Portland is not new in the rock scene. As hopeless romantics' in the new album "Don't Know What I Am" expresses in each song their intimate opinions about relationships, all in an emo and shoegaze style, at times screaming and depressing with distorted guitar riffs.
Helado Negro - Outside the Outside
Roberto C. Lange aka Helado Negro is an American musician based in Brooklyn. He has a lot of musical awards. He's born to Ecuadorian immigrants and this song for his new album "Far In" is a song about intimate partnerships and friendships covered by home video footage of his family parties.
The Brothers Comatose - Roots
The band from San Francisco is what I see as true, original, and traditional bluegrass. No sounds too much or too little, harmonious and calm, reminiscent of another time when things were clearer than now. I recommend it.
Tom Morello - Driving To Texas (feat. Phantogram)
Mostly known as a member of Rage Against The Machine and later Audioslave. He has been working more solo in recent years, but he also collaborates a lot with other musicians. This song is the announcement of his new album The Atlas Underground Fire which will be released in October.
King Krule - Stoned Again
One of the more eminent English musicians in recent times (as he is known by music critics), he will release a new album in October, "You Heat Me Up, You Cool Me Down", which was recorded on tour before the pandemic. This song, a great mix of punk, jazz, and darkwave, is published as an introduction. I highly recommend it.
